A Busy October Week

This beautiful month is careening along faster than the rest! I have tried several times to do a short blog post, but the internet, while at least functioning, is too slow for me to endure! Now I have come to Starbucks for WiFi, and a long post, after getting my latest Covid booster. It was a Full Hunter’s Moon on Monday, presaging a week in which stars were rather out of alignment.

We had our first real frost last weekend, which seemed early, but was beautiful.

I took a trip with the boys (Harry and Weedy) over to Marilyn’s to fix a better chain to her gate. It was a cool, but beautiful ride in the Kawasaki mule.

The horses enjoyed the weekend off.

Monday brought Rebecca to help with garden chores, which are endless. We had a fun afternoon, making good progress.

On Tuesday, we finally got some much needed rain. Harlan arrived a bit later than usual, in a different truck and the dumpster flipped over, thanks to a damaged hook. Luckily, we were able to put things right. It was quite an adventure on what is usually a routine chore!

After that misadventure, Jane and I went to visit our friend Mary Beth and her dog, Bumble.

Tuesday evening, Harry gave an entertaining speech about sculptures at The Missouri Athletic Club.

Wednesday was Shoeing Day. Fred was great fun, as always, and the horses’ feet were much improved by his skilled attention.

Wednesday afternoon brought a colic, which is never fun. Oisin was very miserable for a while, but responded to treatment, and at 2:30 AM produced what I was waiting for – a nice healthy poop! Living with animals, bodily functions are an intimate part of our lives together.

After a miserable night, grateful that all was well, we drove to Lebanon, Missouri, where Harry gave yet another speech at a Senior Living Facility. It was a beautiful day to travel through the Missouri hills, and we were accompanied by Weedy, who loves to see new places and meet new people. Best of all, we had time to visit our dear friends, Susie and Jake, who have moved from a farm to the town of Lebanon.

Well, speaking of Weedy and Harry – they are waiting for me to finish here, so I will sign off now. More later, I hope…

Be safe, be well, safe travels. Slava Ukraini! Peace.
