Dogs

We lived with an assortment of dogs.  Nettle was a border collie / cattle dog mix, very intelligent and devoted, but somewhat weird and neurotic at times.  She lived with us for 15 years, until August of 2023.  Mistletoe, who died in 2022, was a Cairn terrier mix and a strange but sweet (to us) little ragamuffin.  Nettie and Mistletoe came from the Franklin County Shelter, in 2008 and 2009, respectively.  Cedar, a shepherd mix, came to us in 2012 from Stray Rescue, a St. Louis city “no kill” shelter.  She was found on a loading dock with seven puppies less than 24 hours old.  She raised those seven pups in the shelter, and once they were out in the world, Cedar went looking for a home with our friend, Christine, as a foster.  In short order, she came here and was a  wonderful, simple dog.  She died less than a month after Nettie, in September, 2023.  Weedy, a boxer mix (aka pit bull mix) “popped up like a weed” in our life, wandering into the neighborhood, and thanks to our neighbors, into our life.  He was already neutered, but had no microchip, and is the best dog of all, though he does enjoy wandering.
