St. Louis Charity Day 3

This was a long day, so a brief report…

A 7 AM departure, with Derry showing in a morning class. We figured Bart could sleep as well at the NEC as he does at home. Susan joined us today – she bred both Mia and Bart and is a great addition to the group of old ladies horse showing. Melissa and Mia showed in .85 meter (2’9″) class, first of the day, for mileage. Mia jumped a lovely, clean round but Melissa turned right when she meant to turn left. She worked it out, but had some time faults for the scenic route.

Melissa had gone at the end of the class, so just stayed on and did the .95 meter class (3’1″) on the correct track, earning a blue ribbon with a lovely clear round. She almost turned the wrong way again, but Kris warned her to turn LEFT. Hazard of being an old lady horse showing – haha! Melissa is an extremely gifted rider, but has always had trouble with learning courses. Nothing to do with age! They were finished today, so they packed up and returned north to Kirksville (and Susan to Perry), but it was fun to have them with us for a few days.

Sarah Mechlin, feeling much better today, gave Derry a third perfect ride in the 1 meter (3’3″) class, jumping around in style for another blue ribbon, three for three, making our banner look quite well decorated.

After a VERY long day, with too much to go into tonight – just too late – Bart showed in the High Adult Jumpers 1.10 – 1.15 meter (3’7″ – 3’9″). He was so good!! Alas, we had a rail at the last jump in the jump off, so finished with a purple ribbon for 7th. But it was so much fun, and he has made incredible progress over the past ten days – forward, and looking for the next jump. I am so lucky to have Bart in my old age! But old ladies need sleep, so I will have to report more tomorrow…

Since I don’t have a picture of Bart, here is a picture of Bravo in the Open Welcome. Hard to believe he was showing with an old lady in the High Adults here at the St. Louis Charity, just five years ago. And look at him now with a young lady, Hunter Holloway!
