Friday – June 26, 2020

It was a hot one today. We decided to forego riding. I had a lot of push mowing to do, and it was nice to be able to get that done when it was relatively cool.

We had a visit from a Red Headed Woodpecker. They are so striking. I hoped to get an “in flight” shot, but missed, as usual. Then I found I inadvertently got a juvenile cardinal in flight, anyway!

In the studio, there is some chaos, since there will be some new light fixtures installed on Monday, but the new sculpture is taking shape despite the mess.

The dogs and cats don’t mind the heat too much. Weedy and Cedar enjoyed adventures today and are pretty tired, as am I, though I didn’t really have any exploits, just chores. I inadvertently ran a red light and almost had an accident, but otherwise it was an unremarkable day. I was incredibly lucky, and got a strong reminder to pay better attention. Yikes!

Marmalade continues to hate me, but he is coming to meals with more confidence. I took a few cat pictures. Note that Marmalade always keeps Licorice between us when he eats.

I happened upon a snake skin near the edge of the woods. No luck seeing the snake, but the skin was very cool.

In the evening, I found Harry meditating on the back porch as the sun went down. It was a pleasant end to the day.

Finally, out in Montana, Rainy continues to discover wonderful things, like the hose delivering water. It’s exhausting work being a baby mule (and equally exhausting raising one, says Gracie)…

Stay safe, stay well, be lucky.

  1. Yoga and your blog, always a good way to start my day. Your pictures are fabulous! We have trekked to Columbia for Margaret Booker’s last memorial garden party. Hope the rain lets up by this afternoon. The Horse Fair never looked so beautiful; it’s like coming home for me. Your pictures are always a source of joy, thanks for sharing! Headed back to Michigan tomorrow. This is the first time we’ve used the air conditioner this year. Although the bathroom door just spontaneously fell off as we were driving to MO, Rosie did not disappoint on the things that really matter: AC! 🤣 Enjoy your day!

    1. Oh, Linda – it’s nice to know that you and Ted and Tink and Beka are nearby and Rosie is on the road again! How the world has changed since your visit in March…
I am glad that The Horse Fair is beautiful for Margaret’s farewell garden party. She left too soon and I am sorry for her loss, but it is good to celebrate people’s lives. And best to do so in such a wonderful place.
I hope Rosie keeps it together for the trip north. Safe travels, and you are always welcome to stop here if you wish, and have time. Jane and I will be riding at 7 AM for an hour or so…
