Winter Solstice – December 21, 2021

Most of us have made it to the shortest day of the year. Now, the days will begin to lengthen, and optimism and vitality will return. Sadly, we did lose a friend this morning. Harry had visited him just last week and delivered his Christmas card. Chip was languishing for many months following a bad outcome after surgery, so he is in a better place now, but we will miss him. He was a cheerful presence in our life during Harry’s convalescence, and a good pal.

Yesterday, the new cat, now known as Arthur, went to Marilyn’s Gateway Vet Clinic first thing in the morning. He tested negative for diseases, was vaccinated, and neutered. We are hoping that he can join Roscoe in the house, but cats can be difficult, so stay tuned. He returned to a cage in the basement for recuperation, and today he was allowed out. He has not come upstairs yet. The first face to face encounter with Roscoe happened this evening, and it was not promising.

Roscoe may be bigger, but I’m afraid Arthur may be tougher. This is Roscoe’s house. He may choose to evict Arthur yet. The law is on Roscoe’s side.

Meanwhile, the birds are not bothered by the cat drama. If it keeps them from stalking birds, that’s just fine.

Yesterday, we had a fun lunch with Louise and Pam, and a visit to the Tack Trunk, our favorite place. Weedy came along, though not into the restaurant.

The mornings have been cold, but there is abundant sunshine and pleasant afternoons. Today, we saw our friend, Carter.

Weedy is exhausted by all the holiday trips and socializing.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.

  1. So sorry you lost a friend.
    Grateful for returning light.
Arthur is handsome and Dobby is commiserating with Roscoe.
    Peace
