It was a busy weekend here. Yesterday, Brett left at dawn, and Harry not long after. It was cold. Poor Harry had to go to an art project in St. Louis under the Hanley Road underpass. It was a miserable day for such an undertaking, but Harry is always up for a challenge. His assignment was “foxglove”, so he set to work with colored chalk, depicting on a pillar his latest sculpture of Mater, surrounded by foxglove flowers.
Around here, it was a day of chaos and noise, as the water feature was finally finished, after a long day of very hard work by Connie and Doug of Pond Crazy. Trucks delivered soil and rock, and to add to the chaos, Nathaniel and Allison came to do mowing and weed eating.
Jane and I rode, and just to add to the excitement, a couple of hounds came through, chasing a deer in the woods behind the barn. The horses were bouncing off the wall, and judging by their snorts and stares, I don’t think I want to foxhunt any of these three.

The weather was so unusually cool that Oisin didn’t need his fly sheet and mask.
After failing to get a picture of Marianne for several days, I caught her yesterday, hard at work. A couple of weeks ago, she managed to rescue a mother cat and four kittens, which are now in her bathroom, learning to trust people. I begged for pictures. They are pretty cute!

Rosie and Roscoe would like me to point out that they, too were cute kittens, and are now much loved cats.

I was just loading pictures, when Brett returned, and we spent some time catching up. Soon, it was too late to blog, and another day was done.
This morning, Brett stayed for breakfast, before getting back to his many projects. Thus, the day started with laughter.
The horses were enjoying sunshine and very cool temperatures, so they stayed out for a while.
Jane and I rode and jumped, and then Harry and I went trail riding. It was a lovely day.
Bart is exhausted, as usual Time to ride – Stone is ready Oisin is comatose Harry and Stone A perfect day to ride
Not long after we had untacked, old friends from southern Missouri arrived for a visit. I have known Susie and Jake for half a century. They have recently moved from their big cattle farm to a house in town. It’s good to be out and about now, vaccinated and free. It felt as though no time had elapsed, even though it has been several years since we have seen each other. We picked up right where we left off. It was a glorious afternoon to sit on the porch and visit.
Jake Susie Harry Weedy is lulled to sleep Roscoe, too
We had a studio visit, of course, seeing Mater almost ready to depart.
And a walk to the barn, to turn out horses…
Now, we have some peace and quiet, time to feel very fortunate that we are so rich in good friends.
The first daylily opened today
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
Harry and Mater and the water feature are supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Thank Marianne for me for rescuing mama cat and those sweet kitties. We’ll be checking out Harry’s artwork later today.
