March in May – May 28, 2021

The morning began with rain, and it stayed damp all day, as temperatures dropped until it got so cool, we put down coats on! It’s the end of May and feels like March. No complaints from the horses, though. They are enjoying turnout without bugs. There was some considerable romping, though.

I did get some bird pictures today. I was over at Jane’s house, and got hummingbirds at her feeder, both a ruby throated male and a female. While running an errand, I saw a hawk securing a meal on the ground at the neighbor’s house.

At Jane’s house, I took a picture of Polly coming up from the barn, a magnificent pink clematis, and Clover on the kitchen table. Jane served me the most delicious cup of tea, which was perfect on a cold afternoon.

Our friend Brett, who is in the throes of moving, came to stay, bearing delicious dinner. Jane came over, and we all feasted on gumbo and other delicacies, perfect for a chilly evening. Harry took us into the studio to show us that Mater now has a basket for her knitting.

Finally, as I was driving out this morning, there was steam rising from the warm lake water as the air cooled rapidly. It was strange and beautiful at this time of year.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.

    1. Favorite photo of the day is the red tanager in tree… reminds me of paintings by one of my favorite painters Robert Bateman. He paints birds and wildlife with wonderful misty backgrounds so that his subjects really stand out…
