Weedy In Recovery

Well, Weedy had TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery yesterday. We basically had no sleep last night. He cried almost constantly, mainly because he wanted to be in bed with Harry, but that is not an option at this stage. This morning, Harry took a nap with him (sans e-collar), and he is improving already. Unfortunately, he does have to wear the much despised e-collar most of the time, and he is depressed.

We have made many adaptations for Weedy’s recovery. There is a chart to keep track of all meds and observations, and we await the arrival of a lick sleeve, which will obviate the horrid e-collar, scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I also went out yesterday evening and bought a fence to enclose the patient.

Just to complicate matters, this is the weekend of the 81st Bridlespur Horse Show, and Harry thinks I should participate. I have been very indecisive, for many reasons, but this morning, I loaded Oisin into the trailer and popped over for a school. He was perfect, to my astonishment and delight, so on we go, providing Weedy is OK.

And while Weedy is our first priority, we still appreciate life around here, even the nocturnal marsupial that just walked past my window (no picture taken).

Before Weedy’s big day, Harry and I had time to ride together.

The birds are plentiful.

The cats are great subjects for the camera as I putter around.

Of course, there is much joy, even on hectic days, in seeing the horses happily grazing in the evening, dressed in their aptly named Rambo Protectors, impervious to bugs.

It’s difficult to get a good picture of Nettie. Most of the time, these days, she is asleep. At 15, she is entitled to rest, but this evening she made an appearance.

Finally, my favorite source of delight and support…

Be safe. Be well. Heal! Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  1. I love seeing that Weedy is home with his family and doing OK and I adore the photograph of Harry napping with his little weedy buddy…a nice bunch of kitties you’ve got there as well!

I have much sympathy for Weedy being two days post-op myself. Alas, I will probably miss all of the horse show this year which makes me sad, but as with Weedy, our health and ability to walk soundly takes priority.

  4. Sending Weedy prayers for a “r’fuah shlama” (Hebrew for “a full and complete healing”).

  5. So glad to see that Weedy I doing well. It does tear the heart when our companions suffer. Best wishes to all.
