We had a sunny morning to start the day. Two orange cats greeted me on my way to the barn.
Harlan came to empty the dumpster. He does a great job and always has fun stories. We are so lucky to have such a nice guy for an unglamorous but very important job.
I hate to schedule anything else on Tuesdays, for fear of conflicting with the dumpster pickup, but today Kevin was bringing hay. It all worked out, Harlan was gone before Kevin arrived. I got my exercise helping to stack 51 bales of hay. As always, it is a comfort to have the pallets full. Now that the horses are eating grass, and because I requested hay that is NOT too delicious, due to fat horses, I hope we will be set until summer. I failed to get a picture. After delivering hay here, Kevin took a load over to Jane, too. He is another man we are lucky to have in our life, thanks to Florence.
The horses had three trips out on grass for an hour. There was less excitement today. The flies are already bad, hence the masks. Oisin has a UV protective mask because of his white face. It makes them look less romantic, but I think they are content.
Oisin and Stone Happy herd
I didn’t take many bird pictures today. Here is a chickadee.
The horses were resigned to the paddocks, knowing they would get back out on grass. They were thirsty, since there is no way they will stop grazing to drink when the grass is so delicious.
After lunch, Jane rode over on Derry and we had a nice ride, but no jumping. Her eyes are no worse, but unfortunately no better yet. Despite her bad eyesight, she returned for a second ride – Jane rode Oisin and I rode Stone. We got sprinkled on, but not enough to get us wet.
Jane looks great, if only she could see herself in the mirror!
The plum tree is blooming. It’s beautiful, but might be premature, since there are frost warnings in the forecast.
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
