Sunday – Preview Show Final

The #oldladieshorseshowing and their trusty steeds Derry and Bart have the day off.  The hot weather has broken, jackets are out of the closet, and early this morning Jane and I headed up to the NEC to watch  youngladieshorseshowing (there were no boys in the class) in the Zone 7 Equitation Championship this morning.  Harry sculpted the permanent trophy used in the class, so we feel a special affection for this particular event.  Harry’s work can be seen at his web site  http://harryweber.com

It was a really fun class to watch, with 19 entries and a great course set by Scott Starnes.  We know a few of the girls (and have known some of their mothers since they were in the equitation division – which makes us feel really old!!) so we are always rooting for most of them for one reason or another.  It’s such a stressful division, the equitation!  And one small mistake can change everything, unlike the jumpers, where luck can salvage a catastrophic miss.  The top 15 returned for a second round, and the top FIVE came back for a very difficult test.  To our delight, Samantha Meyer was called back in 4th place, which she maintained.  Another local rider, Jaden Porter, shone brightest in the final testing and moved up from 2nd to win in the end.  It was great fun to watch, even though Jane and I were constantly distracted and didn’t pay perfect attention.

Here is Jaden, the winner, on course (photo by Abbi Stoll)…

A restful afternoon followed – time to appreciate home and to prepare for gearing back up for next week – the St. Louis National Charity Horse Show (SLNCHS).

An afternoon turtle view (just a single)…

Flowers and aptly named Beauty Berries…

And then I discovered that poor Roscoe had a disgusting abscess to top off the day.  I was too busy draining the pus to get a picture of it – very disgusting and stinky!!  He was not at all happy, but is feeling better already.  My poor, beloved Maltese cat!!

Soon he will be back to his usual magnificence…
