Sunday – March 29, 2020

It was a very windy day today. Tom Morris slept in the barn last night, and was very cute this morning. His bite wound is not infected (yet)…

Harry worked hard in the studio. I hope he is not overdoing it.

I ventured out to Wright City to the gas station for fuel for the tractor and mowers. The back pen grass, fertilized by the dogs, needed mowing. It felt good to be doing ordinary outdoor work. Meanwhile, Marianne continues to help in the barn, freeing me for other things…

Marianne cheers me up!

Stone napped in the shed, Weedy napped on the porch. The sun was most welcome, but we could have done with less wind…

The hyacinths are blooming. Mine are pretty pathetic, but they still smell like hyacinths, which always reminds me of my grandmother in England, whose hyacinths were spectacular. Today, the aroma of spice bush fills the air behind the studio. The flowers are not very impressive, but the fragrance is sublime. And this spicebush has a wonderful history. Forty years ago, Richard Camp gave some cuttings from Poplar Bluff to my mother. She passed some on to me, when we moved to Bowling Green thirty years ago. Then, in 2003, I dug some up and brought them here. I love the connections woven into the gardens.

Tom Morris seems no worse for wear this evening. He advises Rosie that she should stay six feet away! She really doesn’t get this “physical distancing”.

And finally, Harry cooked for the first time since the accident! He couldn’t take my cooking anymore!

Stay safe out there, wherever you are.

    1. Your mention of Google prompted me to Google spicebush. The plant that I have always referred to as spicebush, since that’s what Richard called it when he gave it to my mother, does not seem to come up on Google! I will need to do more research…

  1. NOT true about the cooking. Yours has been spectacular. That little effort of mine paled in comparison ..it actually was pretty pale now that I see it😁
