SLNCHS Day 2 – Thursday

This has been a long day!  On top of which, the blogging learning curve has thrown me for a loop… And I forgot my camera at the show, so there won’t be many pictures…

We planned to leave at 7:30, but Bart had already fallen asleep for morning nap #1, so we were delayed…  Jane and Derry waited patiently…

Melissa rode Susan’s mares in the first class and gave us all a demonstration of how to play this game…

Susan followed with a blue ribbon round on Teah, then went off course after seven perfect jumps on Mia!  Susan is the youngest of the #oldladieshorseshowing, but she is earning a place in the group!

Bart fit in another morning nap and inspired Derry to do the same…

We were Hopeful Jumpers again today.  Jane and Derry had a nice, clean trip for a blue ribbon.  Bart was wonderful, despite my forgetting where I was going and using a rather erratic track.  He is such a great amateur horse, unfazed by most of my mistakes.  I feel very lucky, and Bart pulled out a clean round – the blue ribbon was definitely his today.  My part in it was sabotage!  He jumped really well.  Harry came and shot video, but I have not had time to watch it yet!

Jane McClaren and her naughty dog Chaps were with us all morning, and after looking after our horses, we biked up to St. Louis Bread Company to meet another good friend, Christine, for lunch.

We spent some time together marveling at how lucky we are to be able to do what we love.

Roscoe, alas, is not doing well, so there was a late night visit to Marilyn, the vet (and, luckily for us, unfortunately for Marilyn) our neighbor.  She assures us that Roscoe will survive this miserable infection, and  we are to put epson compresses on his leg.  Well, that was not as straightforward as I hoped it would be, and I have one very unhappy and sort of angry cat now.

The horses are home and happy for their last night out before we leave them at the horse show for the remainder of the event.

Horses in the moonlight…

  1. When you get a blue ribbon these days — Congratulations, you all — do they give silver or any kind of trophy?

    1. No, Florence, in the Blue Ribbon clear round classes it’s just a ribbon. The “real” classes have lovely crystal trophies at St. Louis, so we are hoping against hope that we can each earn one of those! But much more important to have a round that does not embarrass or destroy our old lady horses!
