Sixty-seven Onward – December 16, 2021

Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday. On we go!

Fred was here yesterday. The horseshoer is one of the most important members of the team that makes it possible to show jumping horses. We are very lucky indeed to have Fred shoeing our horses on a regular schedule, every six weeks. Apart from his expertise, he is very entertaining, and Jane and I always look forward to shoeing days, especially when the weather is pleasant, as it was yesterday. Sometimes in December, we freeze standing around, but yesterday was record setting warm, albeit very windy.

Cedar keeps watch every morning. In the barn, Cora has put on some winter weight.

Today, we went in to St. Louis county for lunch with brothers Peter and Michael. I wanted a picture of both brothers, but Peter forbids it. Weedy came with us, because the weather was fine for leaving a dog in the car. We took him for a walk before leaving him to sleep in the car. I always worry about some animal rights nut calling the police for a dog in a car, but we got away with it today. Weedy is happier napping in the car than on the bed at home.

Michael returned with us for a night here before he travels on tomorrow on to visit brother Mark in Chicago. We had a brief early evening walk after bringing the horses in from the pasture.

It is good to be together. Old memories rise and get tossed around. It’s funny how differently we saw the same world. I was the oldest, and only girl, while Michael was one of the “little kids”. Perspective is everything. It is wonderful to reminisce and compare impressions of the past.

Harry and Weedy enjoyed their trip to town. I think Weedy was tired from the excitement.

The horses are still enjoying their Christmas vacation. We have some work to do to tidy up the ring after the wild winds yesterday and last night. All is calm now, but quite a mess.

Venus was bright in the sky this evening. I was grateful that Marilyn called it to my attention.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace
