Luck – July 17

As it happens, we have had some much needed rain today, but this post is for yesterday. The slow internet prevented me from uploading pictures in time to blog, so I am a day late, (and always a dollar short)…

It was hot, but we had a pleasant ride before the sun hit its stride.

Bart enjoyed his bath after riding, but as I unhaltered him to let him into his stall, he decided to leave the barn and grab a few mouthfuls of grass. Bad Bart!

Cats are desert creatures, and they cope well with the heat.

St. John’s Wort (Hypericum) is beginning to bloom in the woods. It is purported to help with mood disorders, so I am particularly fond of it. But really, all of Nature helps with mood disorders.

It was time to work the ring. Not very nice weather for it, but with rain in the forecast, it needed to be done. I almost perished from heat exhaustion, but as I finished up and headed for home on the tractor, I came upon a tree across the roadway and all thought of the heat was banished by thoughts of luck. So much of our lives come down to luck. That tree fell while I was working the ring, and not as I was driving down the road underneath it just a short time before.

I have a fear of a tree falling on me. A friend of mine knows someone who had a tree fall on them while trail riding. Talk about bad luck! Rachael, our niece who is a woodland firefighter, commented on the many dead trees in our woods, and what a hazard they present. I do worry in the woods when it’s windy, but yesterday was absolutely still. It’s just a matter of luck. Counting my lucky stars, I walked back to get the chainsaw (and Harry as support crew) and cleared the roadway.

At the end of a long, hot day, the greatest luck in my life rested on the sofa with Roscoe and Weedy.

Be safe, be well. Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  1. Well, the hummingbird photo wowed me, then the butterfly! Your photography gets better and better! It’s good to see a moment of luck, to recognize it. Some don’t see any luck at all. Some, I’d say most. So sad. But, your blog let’s us see another side, and this makes me happy. And, so happy for you and Harry!
