A Hot Day – July 29, 2021

It was as hot as predicted, a truly miserable day. Having horses and cats to care for, there is no avoiding the heat. The dogs, of course, are privileged to lounge around the air conditioned house and studio.

The big news here is that the stream and pondless water feature are finally operational again! Connie came to work on it yesterday afternoon when the heat index was 105 degrees. She installed a new pump, and this morning we were treated to the sound of water behind the birdsong.

I spent the morning working outside, then recovered by accompanying Harry to the grocery store. I was too hot and filthy to actually go into the store, but the car was air conditioned.

Lunch was delicious with warm cherry tomatoes picked from the plant.

I took pictures of all eight cats this afternoon, as they endured the scorching afternoon.

The horses were delighted to be out on the grass this evening after a long day under fans in the barn.

Marianne arrived to do barn work, and her wet shirt illustrated how hot it was, but the smile never washes away.

The last thing to do was to empty the Kawasaki Mule of garden detritus, and park it under cover in the shed. Harry joined me for the trip as the sky was darkening to the north, and thunder was grumbling. I’m hoping rain will help banish the swelter. If the weather forecast is right, we are in for a spell of pleasant conditions.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
