A Country Visit

Weather is top of the mind as I sit here preparing to go out to the barn for night check. Saturday was a glorious day with sunshine and sixty degree temperatures. Tonight we will be struggling with single digits. So, let’s return to the best day in January…

Laura had come back from South Carolina at last, and she joined us here on Saturday morning for a trip north to visit dear friends Bunny and Holly in Pike County. Jane and I luxuriated in the comfort of the front seats, while Harry and Laura and Weedy crowded into the back for the hourlong drive. We arrived at Rockford Farms to be greeted by Holly, and Zest, the theater goat (from the Tennessee Williams Festival last summer), as well as assorted cats and dogs and Gemma the dachshund.

We gathered in the kitchen, where we noticed one of my favorite foods, Marmite. There was much laughing, at Marmite and many things.

Soon, Bunny made an entrance, beautifully dressed, putting the rest of us to shame. She is elegant always.

Holly prepared a feast, and we all laughed and reminisced at length. It was a perfect country luncheon.

When Bunny retired for a rest, we were off to see the new kid, Winnie (Winston), son of Pooh Bear. Holly has a huge herd of goats, and I love goats, so this was real highlight.

It was such a joy to be in the country, escaping all the development happening around here.

At home again, the boys were keeping fit with their frightening shenanigans.

And that is enough for now. Tomorrow, birds, and more…

Be safe, be well, stay warm. Slava Ukraini! Peace…

  1. Awesome to see your visit to the society goat-keepers! (Can you bring Cockle back another time? I love goats too.)
The background to the shenanigans of
your horses makes them look like wayward unicorns sparring- a fitting sort of magicalness for your happy day visit?
Very nice to see it all, thanks-

  2. Thanks for the post. I learned something new about Ann
I did not know you loved goats. That’s so cool. I am afraid of them, that’s a story to be told later.

  3. It was so nice to see pictures of Bunny. I saw her at the Wentzville Schnucks two or three years ago and she looked great then, still looks great now.
Does sweet Betsy from Pike have a lover, and is his name Ike?

  4. How wonderful to see wonderful Bunny again! We worked together for Prison Performing Arts. She taught dance at “Juvy “, the City Juvenile Detention Center. Wouldn’t you know 😏. And she even performed on the circus bar at City Museum! And that was not too many years ago. We lost touch, but now I will contact her; such a beautiful inspiration! (We’re still in the tropics after a cruise)
