Wednesday – March 26

Another glorious Spring day! Following morning chores, we drove into Chesterfield for lunch with Cherie. Old friends are irreplaceable. Cherie and I have been good friends since we were six years old. She traveled a traditionally successful path, and is a doctor. I sort of messed about for all these decades, applying myself to horses and other animals, and falling into the good fortune of marrying Harry. Cherie and I have remained friends throughout.

It was cool enough to take the dogs with us. They love car trips, and they never mind waiting in the car for ages, the reward being to smell some new smells in a strange place, I guess!

I got one bird picture today. I plan to learn more about finch eye disease, and I hope the finches recover. I have not seen any other birds affected, but all our feathered friends are confused by the absence of food, which is distressing (to me). I am leaving the suet feeders out, since finches do not visit those.

The horses were late coming in. I got a nice picture of Bart, and then there was a bit of commotion in the herd. I got a very hateful shot of Bart and the others. The pecking order in our little herd is well established. Bart is the boss, and Stone is subordinate to him, but superior to Oisin, who is at the bottom of the herd pecking order. These pictures illustrate that.

For Gayle, here are a few pictures of horses 35 years ago, in 1990.

Again, there are stories behind all of those pictures, but those will have to wait.

Be safe, be well, be grateful. Be kind, and stay strong. Try to spend more time in Nature than with technology. Slava Ukraini! God Save America. Peace…

  1. Wow. Those were some beautiful horses. It seems to me that the wild horses down near eminence almost ALWAYS have their ear pinned back.

  2. My hope is that everyone has a horse of a lifetime. Willie was mine. A little quirky but basically a good boy. Robbie is a close second.

  3. More memories, nostalgia along the honoring is beautiful to see. By the way, to me, Monte Carlo stood as a good example of Missouri hunt horses. Why, because Missouri beautifully shows off many breeds. Love the road trips of Weedy and Eddy. Etta James seemingly spends equal time in her personal SUV (she is a terrier, the car is a Fiat 500) and at home. Poor birds, happy cats, horses doing horse things, it’s a paradise!!

  4. love the shots of yesteryear. Nice size fence you were jumping over Anne!
spring is much further along where you are than in Upstate NY. My daffodils haven’t bloomed yet. and the trees are barely budding.

  5. Oh, I love Dress Gray and what a big fence you two were jumping over! I loved all the other old Equine photos as well. They each have great memories for you, I’m sure. I went to Jim Hagale’s Arabian farm today and we saw some beautiful horses. I took the president of William Woods university with me. He then took us to lunch at the country club where he lives . Right next-door to that was Missouri sports Hall of Fame building with all of Harry’s statues and busts. Wow they were amazing. Harry is amazing! I really enjoyed seeing them even though I had seen them quite a few years ago without realizing who created them. I took pictures lots of them. Happy spring !!
