May is a wrap. Another month collapses under the weight of time. Around here, there has not been much newsworthy activity. We have become addicted to Wordle and have been enjoying sharing results with brother, Michael, who taught us two new words. A mano is a stone grinder used by hand to grind on a metate. Turns out, we have a mano and a metate here in this house, formerly referred to as a common “corn grinder”. Harry found it in Arizona in 1954, when such artifacts were free to finders. It is a treasure, and now we know its proper name!
Another wet day today afforded some time for housework and made weeding simple. But the ring is very wet, with a little over an inch of rain by the time the sun came out this evening. More rain is forecast tonight.
There was abundant sunshine (and heat) Monday and Tuesday. The flowers are beautiful. So are the boys, Weedy and Roscoe.
Bart rests whether he is working hard, or on holiday.
I topped up the stream water for the sake of tadpoles yesterday (thereby guaranteeing rain). I found two toads in need of rescue from the well. It seems to be a good year for toads. Which should reduce flies, an added bonus.
Yesterday evening, I saw two turkeys trot through the south pasture. I’ve missed many good pictures lately, but I did get a turkey in flight!
Squirrel Nutkin stopped by between rains today, and took a look at the rain gauge.
I happened upon a young skink (a bluetail) in the shed. He has had a mishap already and his tail is growing back. I have had very good luck myself with stem cell treatments by Dr. Crane at Bluetail Medical. Their logo is a bluetail skink, because it is stem cells that permit young skinks to lose a tail to a predator, and then grow the tail back. I just love that!
Finally, Harry at work in the studio, rain or shine…
Be safe, be well. Slava Ukraini! Peace.
Perhaps we have a lot to learn from characters such as Weedy and Bart. They must have read Federico Tesio’s Breeding the Race Horse, 1958, where he sets this paradigm, “All life is based on the consumption of energy, and the rest to restore energy.” Well done, Weedy and Bart! Anne, never fear that you don’t have astonishing things to report, these simple tidbits to you astonish and educate! Who knew about a Skink, much less his blue tail?
