Harry slept in this morning, healing as he rested, I hope! I turned the horses out before he woke up. Stone, Harry’s horse, had obviously also slept well…
We did our own version of PT and OT, and while Jane ran yet more errands for us, and others, the Marlows arrived from the city for a visit. The Marlows went all the way to Greece with us, where we were both sick, and terrible company, and they STILL love us! We are so lucky in friendships! John and Laura came laden with delicious food, enough for a month! I was so overstimulated at having them here, I forgot to get a picture of them with Harry. All I took a picture of was John with the infamous Hussar, so here is a picture from last summer of us all together…
And here is John today…
No sooner were the Marlows on their way, than the OT (Occupational Therapist), Carmen, arrived. She was a huge help, taught us all sorts of tricks and how to use the wheelchair properly, and was very nice. She had us practice getting ready for our trip to the doctor tomorrow, and we were glad we did. We really are quite incompetent and need some practice! She also had Harry use the walker on carpet, and make an attempt to get into the shower (not yet ready, alas – more sponge baths ahead).
It was exhausting, of course, so more rest was in order. Between being well rested and well fed, I HOPE we are ready for the ordeal ahead of us tomorrow. This US Healthcare system is so stupid! It is REQUIRED that Harry see his PCP (Primary Care Physician) within a week of discharge from the hospital in order for Medicare to pay. It makes no sense to me, and will be extremely tiring , not to mention dangerous, to travel an hour just to say hello and to get some bloodwork done. That said, it will be good to have a competent opinion of Harry’s condition.
Luckily, the sheepskin pads for the chair and the bed arrived today, so at least Harry’s bottom will have some padding for the long trip.
Good luck tomorrow! I hope that the planning makes the trip go more smoothly than anticipated.
That WEAPON that took Harry down has really become a touchstone to all of us that have come and visited. You may want to consider some appropriate ‘resting place’ for it when all this is done. Of course, you would rely on any one of us to deposit it there, not you, Harry!!! Jack
Safe travels. I trust Roscoe should be well rested and ready to resume therapy when you get back home.
Anne, O my gosh. I haven’t seen John in years. He lived across the street from me on McPherson in Central West End. When you talk to him again. Tell him Leslie Ayers says hello. Good luck at the Doctors today.
