Visit From Our Rain Man – March 27

Our friend, Joe, came bearing lunch and other nice things today. He also brought some rain. Last year, he drove here (more than an hour) in the worst rainstorm we have ever seen, and it does seem that rain often coincides with his visits. Nonetheless, we enjoy his company immensely. Today was Opening Day for the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. Joe used to manage security at Busch Stadium, which was how our paths initially crossed. But Joe is also passionate about horses, so our friendship is secured. Baseball, horses and politics kept us entertained. It was only fair, before he left, to get Joe up on the three time World Champion Pinto Jumper during a break in the rain. Oisin is always game for anything that provides attention.

We called to the grazing horses, and they galloped up to see what was going on.

Harry made sure Joe knew he was risking his life!

Earlier in the day, Eddy helped me with a bush honeysuckle I found in the barn hedge! Harry went to run some errands, and the dogs were very happy, as always, when he returned.

I heard the horses gallop up to the pasture mid morning. They were alarmed by something to the south. Suddenly there was lightning and a crack of thunder and the rain began. That alert attention is very photogenic, but not so nice when we are riding, as it often precedes a reaction, sometimes to run the other way!

There are many birds about, but I only have one bird picture, of a downy woodpecker on suet. The goldfinches have deserted us, I think they are all over at Jane’s house. I hope they are recovering from finch eye disease. Meanwhile, the cats are always available for photos, and the horses are easy subjects.

The rain was followed by sunshine, and now we have storms and rain again. We are having a classic Springtime.

Be safe, be well, laugh when you can, and nurture friendship. Slava Ukraini! God Save America. Peace…

  1. Great time with great friends!
    The Rainman cometh!
Remind Oisin that I have four World Series rings to match his three championships!
Thanks again for a wonderful day!

  2. The fact that the head of Security got World Series rings too is just wonderful. The best picture in terms of emotional appeal, is the one where the dogs are thrilled upon Harry’s return.

  3. When my parents lived in barbados they often had long dry periods and then Mum would ask me to go for a visit. Like Joe I always brought rain.

  4. Oh, I now have new respect for Oisin! I didn’t realize he was a multi titled world champion! I wanna hear all about that the next time I see you, please share photos of him, jumping into fame! Yes, I agree the dogs greeting Harry upon his return was my favorite photo!
