The new season arrived with a heavy frost, but it warmed up quickly. Harry and I went to Lowe’s to get lumber and materials for a project that will be happening this week for a friend. I hadn’t really looked at the list, and it turned out to be a LOT of stuff, but now we are ready. As a reward, we went out to breakfast, which we enjoyed in the truck. The day was off to a good start.
Marianne was here doing barn work when we returned. I didn’t get a picture of her, but it is always good to see her. Harry and Weedy left to meet a friend for a picnic lunch at Busch Wildlife Area. By midday it was no longer chilly, and a gorgeous Spring day.
Jane arrived to ride right on time, and for a change, I was ready. We had a fun ride.
Cora got the special bed today Bart is ready on time Derry and Jane look happy
Then, we planned to ride Oisin and Stone together. Jane was tacking up Oisin, and I started getting Stone ready, and noticed a swelling on his tummy. It was a freak mishap! He had a splinter from the pine bedding that had punctured the skin and was lodged there. I removed it, clipped his belly, flushed it, and started him on Sulfa tabs. His temperature is normal, but it is very swollen and sore. Of course, it’s a Saturday, so I didn’t want to bother Marilyn. I’m hoping he will be better tomorrow.
Stone is shedding! The injury, and the splinter of wood It doesn’t look like much, but it hurts! Cleaned up Jane commiserates with the patient
Our ride on the two horses thwarted, I was the lucky one and got to ride Oisin. Jane came to set a cross rail for me. I didn’t do more than that, because he was quite frisky, but a blast, as always. Jane took pictures.
The birds were abundant today. Blue jays haven’t been around lately, but a couple stopped by. Alas, a tufted titmouse hit the window and was stunned for a bit, but it seemed to recover and flew off.

Finally, daffodils on the first day of Spring.
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
Great Spring day! Isn’t it exciting? Poor Stone! Ouch! But, he has a good doctor. I swear Derry has the sweetest face. And, Harry on a picnic! Haapy Horses Happy Days!!
Happy tail! And a buck too, I’ll bet.
