Yesterday was a full day, so I will start with that. Fred came to shoe the horses, and everyone still had their old shoes on, which was a relief. Oh, my, there was a lot of laughter! It’s a good thing Fred is such a good farrier. He does an excellent job even when joking around. Jane brought Derry over (as you saw in yesterday’s picture) and Fred shod her first, since she is still on daytime turnout, so she could go home and get out in the field.
I couldn’t stay to help Fred with Bart and Stone, because I was driving Jane to the eye doctor. Somehow, he managed without me, and I returned to find Stone with beautiful new clips. Not only were all horses balanced and shod, the aisle was swept! We are lucky indeed. And Jane’s report was good, so that is truly some good luck.
Happy Jane
When we returned, I snapped a couple of pictures of Hazel and Clover. They are very difficult subjects, but wonderful dogs.
Hazel Clover (and magnificent creeping phlox)
Marianne has been on holiday, so it was a day of great celebration, as she has returned to help with barn work. We have missed her smile.
While I was visiting with Marianne, I saw Twizzler climb the ladder to the loft. Unlike Cora, he is very adept at ladders.
Some very good news arrived from Rebecca – her farrier came to see Mascotti, and the abscess is now open and draining! Hooray!
I turned the horses out, but the Irish Pearl Brothers are dreadful prima donnas about flies, and stayed in the shed. Stone, tough little American Quarter Horse, doesn’t mind a few flies if there is good grass to be eaten. After all, what else are tails for?
There are flies!!! Happy Stone
Our friends, Gerry and Betsey, have come out to the country nearby for a few days, so they came over for a drink and a visit last night. It was a perfect evening, especially if you like frog music. We sat on the porch, with plenty of dogs, laughed, and listened to the frogs’ serenade.

Waiting on the kitchen table are two sculptures destined to travel.
This morning, we set off for Columbia to deliver those sculptures to their new home, and to visit our very good friends, Sue and Bill, now that we are all vaccinated.
It was great fun to take a road trip together, and we arrived in good time for the delivery. We had not met the buyers, Todd and Beth, before, though we had a connection through Beth’s parents, from Bowling Green. Seldom have we felt such a quick affinity. We enjoyed a long visit with them, not just a quick sale of sculptures, and hope we will see them again. Not so familiar yet, that I could ask to take a picture for the blog, though!
Next stop was a restaurant called Sophia’s to meet up with Sue, and her trusty sidekick, Ryan, who was found running down a highway on the luckiest day of his life. A lucky day for both of them, really. I didn’t even ask Ryan, I just took his picture.
Sophia’s was unfortunately closed for the next couple of Mondays, but we floundered around and somehow ended up at a restaurant just behind the place we started. It was a nice lunch, but it was the company we craved and enjoyed.
We have a long history with Sue and Bill, dating back to our Bowling Green days. I cannot help but put in a couple of old pictures to introduce Sue.
Sue and her mare, Charm, schooling in Bowling Green Sue and Charm in an eventing clinic at Queeny Park! Sue and Jane at Longview – the wettest weather we have ever ridden in
And here is Sue today, unchanged from those wilder days, though life has rocketed on, as it does, and some years have passed.
We had much ground to cover and plenty of hilarity. Bill didn’t join us for lunch, but we met up with him afterwards, for more laughs and good company. Harry and Bill are both Navy men, which is fun. And Bill had some medical opinions, being an orthopedic surgeon, which was interesting. Also, he is a pilot, which provides for fascinating discussion.
As always, we needed to hurry home for the animals, though the weather was so perfect, we were able to leave the house open for the dogs to entertain themselves.
The cats are fairly independent, but they do like getting their pictures in the blog.

Finally, a summer bird, the Summer Tanager, has arrived!
Tanager and shadow
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
Too many delights to count.
Love the summer Tanager.
Peace
The tanager is strikingly beautiful! I’m going to keep my eye out for him. So glad that your outing was a success!
