Nancy and Steve arrived from Montana last night. They drove about 2,000 miles in two long days of driving. They have hardly changed at all. It is great to be with them.
This morning, Nancy came out to the barn. I changed Stone’s tummy bandage, which had stayed on well last night. Nancy brought some good luck to go with Marilyn’s expert efforts on Sunday. There was a little bit sticking out of the incision, and it worked it’s way a little further out. I took hold of it and was astonished to discover it was the end of the wood spear that had eluded us for all this time.
A drop of pus? No!! A chunk of wood!! The missing piece on the left, after many weeks in Stone’s abdomen!
We celebrated over delicious turnovers for breakfast that Nancy brought all the way from Montana. Then we went shopping for GE hoof nippers at Spanish Lake Blacksmith Supply. We were fortunate to find the last pair – Steve has worn his out, and with twenty horses at home, he is not really retired from shoeing.
We went to lunch at St. Louis Bread Company, showing the sights of Wentzville to our visitors from the Bitterroot Valley.
There were some good Missouri birds to see on the back porch, of course.

Next we put Nancy to work moving some jumps. There was a little bit of rain, so we adjourned for a cup of tea.
Eventually, we tacked up and rode. It was really fun. Nancy and I met at riding school in England in 1974, so this was a perfect reunion on horseback. Steve was enlisted as jump crew.

Harry, meanwhile, went to work in the studio, and we returned from the ring just as he was headed down to join us.
