Tuesday – March 25

Today has not been particularly “blog worthy”, but since Jane is across the pond, I am determined to do a daily report from Missouri, so that she doesn’t forget us! I have heard from her house sitter that all is well, and I hear Sandy the donkey braying regularly, which is a good sign.

Today was dumpster day, but I didn’t get a picture of Harlan this morning, because I was too intent on discussing the dramatic increase in cost, of which we received notice on Friday. The more than 100% increase goes into effect a week from today! Harlan knew nothing of it, but he was sympathetic. I enjoyed our weekly visit, even though this one was more of a venting session on my part. We are resigned to inflation, and feel fortunate that we can afford to manage it.

More bad news, in that I have read up on finch eye disease and it can also spread through platform feeding, so I am going to stop feeding the birds for a while. I have seen two affected goldfinches. I took some pictures, but they are really too disturbing – they will need to go into the Gross Book. I hope I can still manage some bird pictures without drawing the birds to feeders.

There was much clerical work to be done today, and once I was finished with that, and barn chores, I spent some therapy time in the woods battling bush honeysuckle. I saw an early Dutchman’s britches wildflower, one of my favorites. There are many flowers blooming now. Spring is well underway, with just a light frost this morning and perfect warm, but not hot, temperatures.

The dogs and cats found the camera today, though the horses were overlooked.

I looked through an old photo album to find a picture of our farm in Bowling Green, taken before we bought it. That led me down a bit of Memory Lane, and here are some of the beloved dogs and cats from 1990 – 35 years ago…

There are stories about all of these animals that have so enriched our life, but they will need to wait for another post.

Be safe, be well, cherish those you love and memories of them. Slava Ukraini! God save America. Peace….

  1. Oh Anne, your pictures are just delightful, thank you! Crackle brought me to Stella and Pete and Honny Precious Angel! Two terrible little dogs and the best Jack Russell I loved too well to have another, which led me to Tink. Where does the time go? I must go inspect my birds …

  2. You had a boxer!! She was a great looking dog. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a medication for Finch eye that you could also put in the feeder?

  3. Justine MacDonald

I agree. Hard to believe how fast time flies. Thank goodness for pictures and memories of good times and friends!

  4. Your daily blog lately is bringing me joy, this one especially, traveling in time to fond memories of the landscape, animals and people of your original BFF in Bowling Green. OK, I realize nostalgia can be a form of mental illness, for which the best therapy may be time in the woods battling bush honeysuckle 🙂

  5. Who knows the Dutchman’s britches wildflower? I love these daily lessons! And the memories, ah yes, delightful , yet sad with the speed they became just that. Linda mentioned Stella, she was my Nipper’s (1989-2006) mom. Nipper resides in our little sunroom along side Chaps (also a JRT) and my Jesse (TB,g, 1996-2025). We communicate. Great blog Anne!

  6. Loved all the photos of all of your four-legged friends of the past. No photos of horses from that time?? Maybe you are saving them for the next blog. I’m thankful to Jane for being so far away that you feel you should send her (and all of us lucky ones, too) a daily blog. Enjoy this beautiful day.
