A primary election day here, so we actually had to set our alarm to get up and out to the polls at 6 AM. It was quite a different scene compared to March’s primary, when I last voted. Then, I was the second ballot cast and there were few people around. Today, there was a crowd, and a wait in line. About half the people wore masks, and not even all the poll workers had masks on. It was a mess. The ballot machines didn’t work at first, and there was some feeling of confusion. But we managed to vote, and the machines accepted our ballots. We are relieved that we have already applied for absentee voting for November (we were too late for this primary election). Because we are both 65+ we are vulnerable to coronavirus, so we qualify for absentee ballots. It is a shame that not all Missouri citizens can vote by mail.

The full Sturgeon Moon was setting in a clear sky when we woke up. It was a beautiful day.

The horses were happy with some extra grazing time. The grass is having a record year – see how green it is!

Jane and I planned to ride at 9 AM, but Bart was sound asleep, and Oisin followed his brother’s lead, so we didn’t get on until after 9:30. It was cooler, even mid morning, than most mornings in August are at dawn. The horses were very good, despite a lot of walking and talking before we got down to really riding.

Stone needed to deal with his coronavirus hair, so we had a short spa session.

My beloved Roscoe and Tom Morris joined me in the paddock. They have a tensely tolerant relationship when it comes to each other. I love them both.

In the studio, Harry could leave the doors open all day, since the weather was cooler than we would set the air conditioning. He worked hard, as usual, with a midday break for a Zoom discussion. The dogs love it when they can come and go at will in the studio to check on Harry.

Here are a couple of bird shots. My friend, Betsy, sent me some amazing bird pictures from a Facebook bird photography group. I have a long way to go to get into that league! I keep practicing.

In the evening, we relax and watch as much of the news as we can tolerate, then the late night comedy shows from the previous night to balance us out.

Finally, a butterfly on the Mexican sunflower, enjoying this day as much as we all did.

Stay safe, stay well, keep laughing.
