Thursday Tax Day – April 15, 2021

While the deadline for filing 2020 taxes may have been extended, estimated taxes are still due today. Ouch. Being fortunate enough to need to file tax payments is nothing to complain about. And it was another sublime Spring day.

The horses are contentedly grazing in these pictures, but when I turned them out this morning, I didn’t have the camera with me. They were crazed with energy, and I have never seen such exuberant acrobatics. It seemed to go on for ages. I guess they are getting fitter! My grandmother used the expression “full of the joys of Spring”, and that they certainly were, until they became these sedate creatures again.

Having failed to get to the badly needed push mowing for the past three days, today I finally found the time, only to discover the push mower is broken! I cannot understand how it happened, since it worked well two weeks ago. But this is a bad time of year to be without a push mower. I hopped in the truck and drove to Lowe’s. Jane had been to our favorite Rob’s Lawn and Garden yesterday, and they have no inventory because of factory slowdowns due to the pandemic.

I had been thinking about a battery powered mower for several years, so today I took the plunge and bought one. Here is Tom Morris sitting next to it, after it spent an hour doing a great job without a hitch – and no gasoline! I am hoping Nathaniel will be able to fix the old mower and we will have a backup machine.

Next on the agenda is an electric car, preferably self driving. That will be a while!

On the way out to Lowe’s, I encountered a herd of ten deer. Most of them skedaddled, but I had my camera with me, and got this pair.

Roscoe spent some time out in the barn communing with his sister, Rosie. Later, I called him, and he came running. Luckily, he doesn’t realize that cats don’t come when they are called.

Marmalade definitely doesn’t come on command, but he no longer runs away, and he is adorable.

A cardinal at the front birdbath …

And finally, a glimpse of things happening in the studio.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
