My plans of venturing out for groceries fell by the wayside today. Somehow it just got busy around here, and I figured we could last until tomorrow.
We had terrible news of a good friend being hospitalized. This is such a bad time for that. She can have no visitors, of course. It’s distressing for the family, and terrible to be sick in hospital alone.
The friend from Bowling Green I ran into at the cardiologist had a quadruple bypass last week and has been in ICU. His wife cannot see him, and calls the nurses every few hours for a progress report. In the meantime, she has been staying at a motel to be nearby. It’s hard to even comprehend. Perhaps it’s a part of getting old, we have so many friends with health problems right now. A broken femur is nothing compared to their real troubles, and we are wishing there was something we could do for others, now that we are almost out of the woods. But who could have imagined social isolation and social distancing? Strange, upsetting times. Here I go, blogging for distraction, while counting our blessings and sending as much spiritual energy as possible in the direction of those who need help.
It’s definitely Spring here today…
The squirrels are getting bolder. I’m afraid one of these days the dogs will notice them!
Num, num, num! Look at those toes!
Today was OT with Carmen. She arrived with a card for us from her daughter, Hannah, who is eight. She has been using her time making cards to send with her mother to cheer people up. How sweet! It really made our day, and has a place of honor on the fridge now…
Carmen always finds a new challenge to master. Today, it was walking out to the car and getting into the front seat. Last time Harry was in the front seat of the car was on his trip to the hospital. This was somewhat difficult, but a lot less traumatic than with a freshly broken femur! Poor Carmen must wear a mask and gloves as part of the protocol, but we certainly appreciate it. I forgot to get a picture in the car.
Roscoe had great fun under the comforter this morning…
Nettle has taken to trading a toy for a treat. She brings a toy to me whenever I am sad, and it’s so sweet that I have rewarded her. Now, she spontaneously brings a toy, and expects a prize, preferably an edible one. Nettie is the most intelligent dog we have ever known, but also the most food motivated!
Meanwhile, out in the paddock, Oisin checks Stone to see if he is alive… Oh, yes, he is – just trying to win America’s Dirtiest Horse award. He is definitely in the running…
All of us reveled in the warmth. Harry went out to the back porch to enjoy fresh air, while I puttered around at the barn and snapped a couple of cat pictures.

When Harry came back inside, the dogs were thrilled, as usual…
Harry continues to need plenty of rest as that femur bone knits. Weedy makes sure they spend quality time together…
Hoping that everyone is getting quality time when and where it presents itself during these difficult days. Love one another and “wash your hands”.
And don’t touch your face! Wasn’t the sunset on Wednesday beautiful? I hope that your friends recover quickly, you don’t get any more deer legs, and your animals continue to bring you joy! Lucky you that you have a mocking bird and pileated woodpecker. Take care.
Thanks, Rebecca. Hope to see you one of these days. I’m enjoying the chick pictures. They sure grow quickly! Soon they will be laying eggs! Hope you and Vic are coping with these strange days!
I love that photo of Harry and Weedy. Roscoe continues to delight he is definitely up for best actor.
So good to see that Spring has arrived and Harry is mending well.
You take the best photos, I’m reading Heartburn by Nora Ephron, her writing reminds me of you : ) only it’s set in the city not a farm in Missouri. Stay safe!
Thank you for sharing good news and wonderful images! Spring flowers 🌺 I am so ready for spring flowers! My daffodils are just poking their noses up so soon we will have flowers 🌸 Roscoe looks like he suffered a kitten attack, good for him! Every now and then Beka sprints across a room, wheeeeeee haha. Tink is the most food motivated dog I have ever met. But she has never tried to barter for a treat, she just whines. Enjoy the seasonal color and walks outside without 4 layers of clothing.
I am enjoying these blogs so much! Harry you are a delight! Anne is amazing, I’ve fallen in love with all your animals, domesticated and not.
Thank you!! XXOO to all!!
Hi Harry, I just fell in Love with your dogs and other things like horses and the AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS STABLES! Count them each evening….I may try to steal one or two!! Sad thing is —I am not really knowing how to get to you! My cat Saji has kept me busy with trying to save lamps and other fixtures in the house for 4-6 weeks now. He is so smart. Working with him as he and I try to continue bonding. So far, good success.
Hi Anne and Harry, surprised to see my note in your blog! I think of you both a lot and the beautiful home and space that you have. And,OMG those great dogs! (And cats, of course.) missing riding- going to be SO SORE whenever I get back to it. Three of us celebrated Louise’s birthday at her home and kept our 6 ft. Apart. Kinda weird but it was a fun lunch. I brought champagne- of course we emptied the bottle! Stay safe! Pam
