After a stormy night, a cool morning, with horses happy in the field.

Soon it was time to head to St. Luke’s for Dr. Moyer to solve Harry’s lack of rhythm. We were there quite early for the procedure, so I had time to go to the hospital to see a dear friend, who is in a bad way. There are “no visitors” allowed, but I spoke to the nurse and got permission, since my friend has transitioned from treatment to “comfort care”. It was extremely sad, but a great comfort to be able to say goodbye. Bless those nurses for allowing me up there – I had been cleared to come into the medical facility, so that helped. This is the saddest aspect of the pandemic – the loneliness it has engendered. Harry and I have been so comforted through our difficulties by many friends, and we were very lucky in our timing, beating the coronavirus by a mere month. Too many people are deprived of human comfort, which is cruel, though, I guess, necessary.

After a long wait, Harry went off for his cardioversion. We have been there often enough that we see familiar faces, which is kind of nice (though we wouldn’t mind spending a bit more time away from them in future).

Then, while waiting for Harry, Kristen’s friend, Kevin, who is a cardiac surgical assistant, arrived to say hello. What was promising to be a long, miserable wait turned into a long, fun conversation. I have seldom felt so comfortable and entertained by someone I have never met. What a pleasant surprise on a difficult day.

Eventually, Dr. Andrea Moyer appeared and assured me that all had gone well, and Harry converted with one shock, hooray! We discussed medications and she stressed the importance of good rest. The night before the A fib started, Harry had not slept well. So a touch of alprazolam will be part of the routine for three weeks, to ensure good sleep. Soon, Carol allowed me to come into the back to collect Harry, who was wide awake and cleared for departure. A short stop at Whole Foods for lunch to go, and home again.

The dogs were very happy to have their pack leader back.

Even the flowers (Coreopsis “Tickseed” is now blooming) were brighter with Harry back in sinus rhythm.

I guess Oisin had been very worried, as he was sound asleep when it was time for turnout…

And finally, Montana mule baby pictures. Nancy took some good ones today! Rainy is growing, definitely an athlete, maybe going to be gray, and without a doubt the cutest mule baby I have ever seen.

Stay safe, stay well, celebrate every good thing, especially friends.

  1. So happy Harry is doing well! I am so sorry for your friend – I often think we were lucky, of course loosing my dad was horrible but it would have been so much worse had it all happened a short time later & we wouldn’t have been allowed to be with him – I couldn’t even imagine.
