This post pandemic life is much more hectic than last year, when every day was a bucolic photo opportunity, it seems.

Today, we were up early and out to breakfast with our friend, Brett. The lure of blueberry pancakes cooked in bacon fat was irresistible.

The weather continues to be uncommonly mild. We had some showers yesterday, which watered the ring perfectly and Jane and I had a delightful ride, after which the horses went out early on a cool, overcast afternoon. Today, the sun is out, and bugs with it. Oisin is back in his clothes.

To our dismay, the newly renovated water feature failed yesterday. Connie came right over first thing this morning, while we were out, and it seemed that a pebble had gotten into the impeller, whatever that is. It was an easy fix, and no new pump was required. A lucky turn on an unlucky breakdown. As Gilda Radnor said, “It’s always something.” Happily, the brook is babbling again, and all is well.

The lilac trees are in full, fragrant bloom – this spring has been perfect for them. For the fuchsia it has not been quite so nice. I inquired at the plant shop today, and the consensus was that it has been too wet. What blooms there are, are gorgeous, but many leaves are dying. Meanwhile, in the protected garden, the lettuce is ready for a salad tomorrow!

I took a picture of the little flycatcher, and finally got a picture of a bluebird today.

Disaster in the barn last night! I went out to put the cat food away in the tack room, out of reach of varmints. Somehow, I got distracted, and forgot to close the tack room window, so this morning was off to a terrible start, with the tack room ransacked by raccoons. I asked the cats how they could allow such carry-on in their barn, but they said it wasn’t their job, man!

The horses enjoyed a day off today, as I ran errands and attended to chores.

Marianne was here to do barn work and to light the place up with her smile.

Harry lights up my life with his smile, even though I make him force it for the camera.

Finally, our friend John sent this stunning bird picture from Colorado – a great blue heron at water’s edge.

Wow! The looks on the cats & horses is so expressive…Harry was blushing a bit?
