Cedar waited outside for our trip to the barn, and cat food. She always gets a little scatter of food. Our “watch” dog, she keeps an eye out for varmints to earn her treats.
Rosie wished me a good morning, and wondered if there might be some Temptations available.
We had lots of fun riding this morning. The day was going to be very hot, but it was relatively pleasant to start. Susan and I were ready a little before Jane, so we preceded her to the ring. When Derry arrived, Oisin spooked dramatically and Susan showed that she can really sit a horse. She is, of course, not an old lady. She hardly moved as Oisin leapt sideways. Later, I was trotting toward the west woods, and Bart saw a deer in the area we cleared for disposal of branches. I saw it, too, but I still almost fell off when he spooked. I AM an old lady, and he is very naughty to treat me this way! Yesterday, I saw the horses grazing in the gloaming, and a deer cantered through the pasture quite near them. They never even raised their heads, so I know they are not truly afraid. Anyway, we had a great time and nobody hit the ground.

Jane again helped me school Stone, and today we got a picture to show what a good jumper he is. Harry is very proud of his horse.
We had lunch scheduled at Annie Gunn’s with a friend. It was fun to catch up over a delicious meal. On the way there, we stopped at my favorite store, The Tack Trunk, where I spent much fine gold and caught up on equestrian news and fashion trends. It is the most fun place to visit – reason enough to cross the river.
While we were socializing, Nathan came to mow and start with some chainsaw work. It was extremely frustrating for me, as a control freak, to leave the work to someone else, but it was great to have a start on the tree trimming. Luckily, Jane knew what needed to be done, and helped direct things.
When we got home, Nathan was way too overworked and hot. It was brutal weather. I sent him home, and I finished up. Then, the Kawasaki Mule ran out of fuel. It’s always something! Once it was fueled up and running again, I was going to drive over to the dump site, but suddenly the weather darkened and blew so much I opted for a closer weed pile, and drove through wind and rain to the shed and shelter.
Then, it was time to turn the horses out in pelting rain. They have a shed for shelter. I got drenched and quite grumpy, but dry clothes and Harry’s sense of humor soon put things right. I did call and vent to Jane a bit, too. I’m very tired of rain, which is predicted overnight, also (100% chance).

In the house, all is quiet at the end of a long, busy day.
