Thursday – January 21, 2021

It was a glorious day, very warm for January, and after breakfast and birds, I made a trip to Wentzville for errands. Marianne was here doing barn work, so I stopped for a quick visit and picture. It’s great to see her smile again (and very nice to have her help!).

On the way home, I saw Jane walking with Gus.

Connie came to take a look at the water feature, which is in need of a serious overhaul, since it is leaking. I didn’t take a picture, but I now have a list of things to get done in preparation. It will be quite a big project.

Rosie enjoyed some sunshine, sitting atop the hay I brought over from the shed. Marmalade rolled around, relaxed at last, and not preparing to run for his life.

Rosie enjoyed the sunshine, sitting on the hay I brought over from the shed. Marmalade is getting very relaxed, and is no longer planning to run for his life at a moment’s notice.

The horses had a great day, getting filthy, attempting to win the grooming award away from Derry.

At the end of the day, Rebecca stopped by with eggs. It was really good to see her, and it almost felt like gardening weather. Soon it will be Spring, and we will get back to work. Harry was happy to see Rebecca, too, after a hard day in the studio.

Finally, my quest to get a picture of a red headed woodpecker in its natural state, produced one shot today. You can barely see the red head, but I promise that is a red headed woodpecker flying through the woods. It is quite interesting that birds have these moments in flight when the wings are tight to the body. It makes sense, of course, but my eyes don’t pick it up, so it seems odd. Not my favorite phase of flight, but better than nothing.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.

  1. I look for that same flight behavior while watching birds fly in the yard. Ducks have an identifying pattern that I can recognize. The woodpecker almost looks like it’s perched on a branch. So happy Marmalade is more relaxed. So good to see you and Harry yesterday!
