Thursday – August 6, 2020

It was another lovely, cool night and a perfect morning. Harry and I had breakfast on the porch, which was interrupted by a varmint visit (squirrels). The dogs went on high alert and were released to secure the perimeter. Roscoe was traumatized by the commotion.

The return of the molting cardinal (or maybe this is a new molting cardinal)… someone dared a goldfinch to touch the frightening creature!

Jane and I had a fun ride. Oisin was up, so I rode him.

Then, I decided to fix the fence while the weather was still cool, thinking it would take maybe an hour. Ha!

Rebecca arrived laden, of course, with eggs and flowers, and went to work on the garden. I went down to the bottom of the pasture, where I discovered it was a bigger task than anticipated. On top of the major clearing that took twice as long as I estimated, the fence post was broken off at the ground.

I took a quick break for lunch and then back to work. In the end, nothing else was accomplished, but the fence is fixed. The last part could not have been done without Rebecca’s help. She really went above and beyond.

Why not have Nathaniel do this job, you might wonder? Well, he will be very busy with grass to mow. I am glad he will be here tomorrow for that, and I don’t think there will be time for much more.

Just before I gave up in despair of getting the post out of the ground – success!

Meanwhile, Harry worked hard in the studio all day, but he says I have enough pictures of him doing that, so here he is at his computer.

Marianne arrived to do the barn work, with her usual good cheer. The horses went out for the evening, and all is well.

Roscoe looks like I feel this evening.

Finally, a colorful little bird from Africa to brighten the blog, photo by John Marlow.

Stay safe, stay well, stay colorful.

  1. My thoughts exactly, another day well done. Thank you for the lesson on fence-mending. Is that little bird a kingfisher?
