Our long awaited Omaha adventure continues the exploits of Old Ladies Horse Showing. Jane and I departed Bronze Fox Farm at noon today, expecting a 6 hour drive, which, being old ladies, became 7 and a half hours. I am exhausted, but energized at being here. Bart is just plain exhausted. Jane is asleep now.
A quick recap of hectic days leading up to today’s departure. First, our last jumping school at Mechlin’s on Saturday. We schooled a triple combination. Bart was great. Jane took video again. I cannot overstate how helpful that element of this preparation has been.
Bart had his last ride before leaving on Sunday. As Jane and I were getting on, Marilyn rode through, so we had a pleasant ride with our neighbor. Trigger turned 6 on Sunday. Roy was very excited.
Monday was spent in preparation for today’s trip. I did see the first hummingbird of the season, which seemed a good omen (though not a very good picture). I also saw a little, tiny gray tree frog when Harry and I were hitching up the trailer.
A very good omen was seen by Harry this morning – the first box turtle of the year – on the sidewalk!
Then came the wrenching goodbye, as Jane and I headed west with Bart – old ladies horse showing -while Harry stayed home with the dogs and the two remaining horses.
Bart spent this morning out with his pals, then came in for clean up, loaded into the trailer, and we were off. It was perfect traveling weather, but soon we hit a serious slowdown on I-70. It was more than 10 – 12 minutes!
But we were underway again in a while and at our first stop for gas, Bart looked less than thrilled with the adventure.
At the next stop, Bart got into the spirit of fun, and managed to upstage Jane in a photo.
We were so tired when we arrived, and things were so hectic, I failed to take pictures. Once we got to the hotel and went to the bar for supper, I managed to snap a couple of shots of the fun Kirin Farm crew…
More pictures tomorrow, but the fun has already begun. So much laughter!
Be safe, be well, laugh whenever you can. Slava Ukraini! Peace.
Always enjoy your enthusiasm and engagement in life! Old people stay home, apparently that’s not who you are! Eagerly awaiting the results of your show!
Old Ladies Horse Showing is sort of a joke. We do not feel old, unless we see a mirror!
Enjoy the ride.
Slava Ukraini! Peace
Thank you, Linda! You helped me to be ready for this adventure. Bart is forward and balanced. I am very lucky to have such a horse and such friends.
How fun! I take heart from the fact you went to a bar! Not so old after all.
Really, Janis, although we are actually older than most of the competitors, calling ourselves Old Ladies Horse Showing is sort of a joke. We don’t FEEL old at all. We are having lots of fun.
Can’t wait to see more of this HS adventure! You’ve got the horse! The horse has you. I’d say that’s a great start!! I’ll check it out online.
Thanks for your encouragement, Jane!
I see Bart has that Irish happy tail
He does, indeed, Mary. Thank you, Mountain Pearl!
All the critters here (including me) miss you. But, all is well and we are rooting for you from afar. Thanks for this blog. I am vicariously enjoying every minute you spend in that world. Roscoe says he may forgive you for leaving but you owe him mightily.
Missing you is the one big drawback to this Old Lady adventure. And missing Roscoe, of course.
Jumpimg looks beautiful! Thhinking positive for Omaha, but, no matter what, enjoy the ride!
Thank you, Patti!
Love the travelog (travel blog?) it’s the quintessential American experience. From the Gateway to the West to the home town of the Oracle and of Union Pacific. Good luck at the horse show!
Thanks, Mark – Omaha is a nice city, with many sculptures. I hope I will get a chance to visit some and take pictures, but the horse show is worth the trip in itself.
Glad you are there safe and sound. Good Luck and have fun. Looks like the fun has begun. Hopefully, be there for the speed class Friday night and for Saturday.
Very exciting that you will be here, Louise! We will enjoy watching the speed class together.
Wonderful pictures of humans, horses and other critters! Thank you so much for taking the time to share so much with us. I wish you and Bart good luck together in all of your competitions. What a great team! And with Jane to cheer you on!
Thanks, Pam! Wish you could be here.
