Technical Troubles – September 2

Ah, such First World complaints! Our new modem is no better than the old one, my pictures won’t load, the internet is too slow… Meanwhile, Pakistan is suffering record floods, 90% of the flood victims have received no help yet, China and the American West are experiencing record drought, the war in Ukraine continues to horrify, and the brave Atomic Energy inspectors walk right into danger to try to prevent a nuclear meltdown.

Sorry, I will get back to life at Bronze Fox Farm, as best I can, given the technical difficulties that persist.

Today, I saw two turtles, always a good omen. Unfortunately, only one picture uploaded!

Wednesday, Fred came to shoe the horses, which is important, but also fun. Harry and I had to leave early for a doctor visit, culminating in very good news on Harry’s condition going into surgery. Dr. Cooper had “Smart Ass” socks, which did not go unnoticed, since I am the proud wearer of “Lazy Ass” socks, thanks to my friend, Nancy.

Harry is happy to be healthy (apart from the hernia), finished with obligations, and able to spend time with his greatest love…

It was wonderful riding freshly shod horses. I missed riding with Jane, as Harry and I had a pre surgical exam yesterday morning, which went well. But the afternoon was delightful, and riding alone is a particular pleasure.

Wandering through the woods (hoping that oak mites don’t fall onto horses), I saw this magnificent fungus.

Jane and Derry are back to jumping and showing us all how to do it.

I am forced to build the blog post around the few pictures that successfully loaded. Today, I had to mount from the ground (horse people will appreciate this feat) TWICE. First, I dismounted to get a turtle picture on the trail with Jane – which picture did not load, ironically. I clambered back aboard Bart, thinking I would never manage that again. Then, riding Oisin, who can be naughty on the trails, I was forced to jump off, when he managed to get a sapling between his back legs. I did get a picture of Oisin from the ground, before I somehow managed to remount him from the ground (and he is bigger than Bart!!). George Morris would be proud of me.

Ryan, the electrician Jane discovered, stopped by yesterday to replace the outside floodlight on the barn. Days are getting short, and soon we will be needing that light. We are very fortunate to have competent help around here. There’s always something that needs attention from an expert.

There is no predicting which of my pictures will upload on this crazy internet, but luckily, there are pictures of Harry yesterday…

Today, we have had some unexpected and very welcome gentle rain. The horses were able to go out early, and the forecast is favorable for the upcoming week. It seems September has arrived in earnest, and autumn is in the wings.

Be safe, be well. Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  1. So what’s with Bart’s hind leg? But, now, back to the fabulous photos!! First the turtle, he has little wholes in his carapace. Great clear as a whistle photo! Then, Harry with Weedy, how do you contend with this love affair, Anne? Harry looks happy, relaxed, and still so handsome. Good to see after the 6 productions a week and his competition, kinda grueling, even for Harry. Jane looks terrific over jumps again! And there is no happier woman than Anne on a horse, another great photo. Bravo on the two, count them, two launchings onto the saddle from the, oh, so far ground!! Of course, I am wondering, a sappling between Oisin’s hind legs? I too loved riding out by myself, back in the day. Yep, even on Jesse, my black TB, who knows what might occur with him, the redolance of a lilic bush once set him off, but a heron going airborne in front him, no big deal. Isn’t it a delight, the learning, endless learning!! Thank you ANNE, for this!!
