Super Bowl Sunday – February 7, 2021

The Super Bowl means very little to me, but my brother, Jamie would have been very excited that the Kansas City Chiefs are playing. Of more interest to me is the cold weather. So far, the automatic waterers are still working. The frost free hydrant on the east side of the barn is frozen up, but we are able to manage without it. Of course, it’s only Day 1 of a long cold spell.

The water buckets (the horses have water buckets in addition to automatic waterers) were iced this morning, but the barn windows were beautifully frosted, with the morning light coming up. It is winter, after all, might as well appreciate it!

The birds were very hungry (and thirsty) today. Lots of activity.

The horses were hungry, too.

Once the hay was devoured, it was time for exercise. More gray hair for me.

The animals are not complaining about the cold, although the cats did spend more time today in the heated tack room than they usually do.

Harry took the dogs out on this chilly evening and I got one picture of him to finish off the blog on a good note. Hard to imagine that one year ago we were in the emergency room at St. Luke’s hospital. It was a grim evening indeed, and we are still counting our blessings for all the things that did go right that night. Life is an adventure.

Stay safe, stay well, embrace the adventure. Peace.

  1. Very handsome man at the end!
I love the red bellied woodpecker going after the starling. I wish I had more woods around me. Who has a pileated woodpecker as a frequent guest!!!

  2. Hands down, to me, Cardinal Drinks wins the Gold Medal of photography. Anne, you got the droplets of water thrown from the cardinals beak!
Winter, alas, but, we’re half way through!!

  3. The Bird Lady of Warren County. Incredible shots, Anne. And I thought my photo of a male cardinal sitting on a snow-covered branch was good. : ) A fine assortment of feathered friends you have there. And that old bird at the end looks hale and hearty…although I’m not sure what “hale” means. And February slides slowly by. Can Spring be far behind? (I think that’s from a poem somewhere. Or something similar)
