Sunday – July 19, 2020

Still under a heat advisory, I rested for another day. Even the fish in the pond thought it was hot.

The horses were ready to come in early today, with flies starting to get fierce. Marmalade is making a little progress, coming to eat before I backed away, though he still thinks I am evil, I’m sure.

Mistletoe went out for a mid morning walk, and took a break to drink from the stream.

The good news is that tomatoes and peppers are ripe. Healthy salads are on the menu.

The bad news is that the plague of tomato hornworms is worse, despite the kill on sight order. Today I killed more than ever! I leave the corpses for the birds to dispose of them. But there are always more…

In the garden, the hibiscus and Indian Pink are happy. I took a catbird (my new favorite bird) picture from a different aspect.

Meanwhile, in the studio, Harry was hard at work, but always happy to have a visit from the dogs and me.

Marianne let me take a picture with better light today.

The horses went out for the evening with storms moving in. The storms will bring better weather, and the horses have a shed for shelter, so I try not to fret. Stone’s foot is no worse, and Fred will be at Jane’s tomorrow to put all right. The rain started just before dark, and the horses didn’t mind at all.

And so, I’m afraid I haven’t much to blog about today. I did venture out to Walgreen’s to pick up a prescription for Harry (and Cadbury Fruit and Nut chocolate bars – so much for health!). I almost ranted about the cost of prescription drugs, but then I realized this blog is about bucolic life, and the only ranting should be about pests and varmints.

Stay safe, stay well, and all the rest.

  1. Your catbird pictures are my favorites.
A state Highway has been detoured through our village until October. I’m envying your bucolic life while listening to trucks, motorcycles, and muscle cars race by the front of our building.
Harry is amazing. I like how Jane keeps an eye on him.
    Thank you for sharing!

    1. Oh, Linda! You are not having a good year! How awful to have your quiet village racketed by traffic. I hope they get the work done sooner than expected. And are the roof repairs underway?
Perhaps you can get an indoor tabletop fountain to distract from the noise…
Or, I highly recommend Bose noise canceling earbuds, which I use constantly to “read” books. They block out the mower and chainsaw noise completely. They are expensive, but worth it…

      1. Love my earbuds and headphones. Thanks Anne. This too shall pass. Stay safe, be well, and keep laughing❤️

  2. Cadbury Fruit and Nut is a favorite. Have you tried Ritter Sport? Available at World Market and rather pricey, but still delightful.
