Sunday – January 3, 2021

We had another dusting of snow last night, and that’s about all the news for today.

But there are plenty of birds. This white breasted nuthatch was impatient for me to finish filling feeders and came quite close.

Not so close, but making beautiful calls through the morning quiet, a rather disorganized group of geese flew over, high above.

And on the back porch, there were the usual visitors. Three doves and a goldfinch… I wonder if the goldfinch that hit its head so hard yesterday is confused, and gathered with the wrong flock!

Here are a few more avian friends.

Briefly, the sun tried to come through the clouds, but in vain. The clouds won out for the day.

In the shed, I have started feeding the cats on a “table” to get the food up off the cold floor. Tom Morris thought that was a good idea, and joined Marmalade and Licorice for breakfast.

The horses enjoyed searching for grass in the snow.

Tom Morris helped me bring some hay from the shed.

With the change of years, there was a lot of work in the office, not very interesting blog material. Jane came over for lunch, since Harry went out to the store and picked up a pizza. It was a fun and delicious meal, but I forgot to take pictures (much to the relief of Jane and Harry).

Nettie has disgraced herself by biting the hand that feeds her (literally), so she has a new way of getting biscuits. She has to wait while we put a biscuit on the floor, and then she can eat it when we say “OK”. Being a canine genius, even as an “old dog” it took only one try to teach her this new trick. She is a very quick learner when food is involved.

Finally, courtesy of Nancy out in Montana, Honey and Rainy are very close friends.

Now that Rainy is technically a yearling, as of January 1st, she is no longer a mule “baby”, she is a magnificent young mule. With a bushy forelock, and trees growing from her head…

Stay safe, stay well.

  1. Thank you for making me laugh out loud! Rainy is still an adorable mule. Love the display of feathers on the blue jay in flight. The ice made for some spectacular photos, didn’t it?
