I planned to do one outdoor project before the rain today, but the rain did not appear, so I did multiple outdoor projects, preparing things for the impending pond renovation. Now, I am exhausted and we have to get up at 4 AM, so this will be a short post.

There were birds, of course, but they were disturbed by my outdoor projects. Nonetheless, I got some pictures.

Weedy has had a couple of days of food and adventure restriction due to vomiting (he does have a sensitive stomach). We feed ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach, but the dumpster, along with various disgusting things he finds on his adventures, not to mention cat shit in the barn, conspire to create tummy troubles. Hence his nickname “Wyatt” (as in Wyatt Earp). He seems to be fully recovered, and here he is wondering if he could please, please, please go adventuring.

Mistletoe has not been seen on the blog for a while. Here she is. She is feeling her age, and doesn’t do much these days beyond going out to do her business, but I expect if Jack showed up, she could still raise a ruckus.

We burned the grasses along the stream (many had to be cut down, too). The weather was good, with no wind, but the grasses were not really quite dry enough. Still, much of what needed to be done to prepare for the pond work is now almost finished. It’s a most unusual experience for me, accomplishing an assignment well in advance of the deadline!

The horses got riled up by the fire, of course. More self exercising ensued.

Finally, sometimes you get lucky with the camera. I took this picture today of a mockingbird and a red bellied woodpecker having a confrontation. The red bellied woodpeckers are quite feisty, actually. Mockingbirds are gorgeous, even without flashy coloration.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.

  1. Great photo of the sparring birds! Weedy, a prime example of the most disgusting side of dogs, what they will eat! Happy Days!

Anne and Harry, This has been a miserable year for all of us. I usually don’t get depressed because I find so many things to be happy about. I haven’t been able to Basset this year because I cannot really walk for more than 30 minutes due to an injury. I have to save my walking moments to feed and clean stalls. I try to find my “Happy Place” and it seems to be reading books (which I so dearly love). I have although come to read your blog every day and have taken to rereading it. I love the dogs, the horses, the birds and all the pictures. It is like finding a new Rita Mae Brown foxhunting novel. It makes me happy, comfortable and warm! The two of you are so talented I am wondering if you could put your talents together and write some “in the country” horse inspired novels. I will feed you ideas, Anne will write them, and Harry will illustrate them. Think about it. Betsey
