Sunday – August 9, 2020

We had another inch and a half of rain overnight. This is the wettest August I can remember, which doesn’t mean much, but, trust me, we have had a lot of rain. The morning was cool, though, and the horses were in no hurry to come in.

Once again, it was cool enough to have breakfast on the porch. Mistletoe enjoys the breakfast routine, which always includes a bit of Toto appreciation.

It was too wet to ride. Jane had worked the ring, which unfortunately created new and bigger puddle areas. It will be fine tomorrow, and from the looks of things, my horses were too tired to ride after a stormy night out.

The woods are full of chanterelles. I have never seen so many! They just keep popping up.

This afternoon, Harry gave Nettie her favorite game – frisbee! We don’t do too many throws anymore, as she will run herself to death and she is getting older, but she still loves it so much!

Nettie has learned that she can trade a toy for a treat, so she is constantly appearing with some bedraggled, eviscerated, formerly stuffed thing to exchange for a biscuit. And, of course, the other dogs get a biscuit, too. It’s a trade for the entire pack.

I spent most of the day cleaning in the barn, though it doesn’t look like I have done anything at all out there. I am trying to get life in order, an impossible task. I don’t understand how I can throw away so much and not have any apparent improvement, but I muddle on, making the effort. I am no Marie Kondo, for sure!

Here are a couple of birds in flight, to close out this evening. A female cardinal, and a dove. Timing wasn’t great today.

Stay safe, stay well, stay organized.

  1. I have never had a dog who would fetch things. The terriers would just pounce, grab the toy and run away with it hahaha. Looks like good fun. I envy your efforts to organize. Both Ted and I have an extraordinary tolerance for clutter. Stay safe and be well my friends. Peace

    1. I can’t believe it’s missed you! I may have to travel north to Iowa for hay. Hard to get it put up well around here this year. Oisin sends love and says to tell you the camera adds pounds – he’s NOT too fat! Haha!
