It is way too hot today! It was oppressive at dawn and only got worse.
Bart rested in preparation for the 7:30 departure…
Derry and Jane arrived and Derry inspired Bart to arise…
And once we were at the NEC, the long day began. Bart and Derry were entered in the Hopeful Jumpers (1 meter, or 3’3″), third class of the day. There weren’t many horses in the previous classes, but they dragged on for hours due to conflicts with the hunter rings. Eventually, at 12:15 I got on Bart. Kris sent us into the ring prepared to go forward. I always have less pace than I think, but it’s getting better. The course by Skip Bailey was straightforward and fun. Brody Robertson’s jumps are always beautiful. Coats were waived for the heat, and we romped around clean for a blue ribbon. I missed Derry and Sarah Mechlin because I had to take Bart back to the barn to cool off, but they, too, were forward and clean, and they also earned a blue ribbon. So, despite the heat, it was a good day. Especially for Bart, since he gets to stay home tomorrow and save his energy for the Adult Jumpers, which start on Friday.
Melissa and Mia were in the Low Training (1.05 meter, or 3’5″). Mia covered the distances with ease and advanced to the jump off. They had one cheap rail for four faults, but they looked great out there. It’s such fun to see Melissa showing, since she is usually coaching.
So, not a day with much to tell. Fun to see friends from afar coming to show. We look forward to tomorrow and cooler weather on Friday.
In the meantime, a few pictures from today…
Thanks for the summary and wonderful pictures. I enjoy “being there” from the comfort of my ergonomic office chair. Your pictures and stories of Bart enjoying his naps reminds me of Odds who never lost a chance to stretch out with his head on the banks (he liked having a pillow), sleeping like a dead horse while the flies walked around on his teeth! Good luck to you and Jane in your weekend adventures.
