Yesterday began with a pleasant ride on a cool morning. I have not been very good about pictures over the past two days, but here was the start to Friday.
We were very excited because we have been looking forward all summer to going to The Muny with Margaret and Steve. The day had finally arrived, Chicago was the show, with dinner at Margaret and Steve’s beforehand. We showered and dressed, and as we walked out of the house to the car, a text came in. The final three performances of Chicago were canceled because of Covid breakthrough infections in the cast. Dinner was still an option, so, disappointed but already cleaned up, off we went to Windfall on Wolfrum Road. Mary, who had also been invited to The Muny, joined us, driving out from St. Louis, and the five of us had a delightful time. While we were a bit sad, we could not have had a more special evening – dining on a familiar screen porch in perfect, cool evening weather surrounded by friends and dogs and chickens and laughter. We have had many happy hours and memories beneath that roof.
With the performance canceled, we expected to have an earlier night, but we had so much fun, we were out very late. There was no time for blogging. And stupidly, I took no pictures.
We slept late (for us) this morning, then Harry had to go into St. Louis county on an errand, while I lost my mind trying to prepare for a visit by friends John and Marie. They have a beautiful home, and I am the world’s worst at A) cleaning the house and B) entertaining, so I was in a state. When they arrived, they came bearing a bottle of champagne and radiated such companionable kindness that I settled down and throughly enjoyed the day. The champagne helped relax me a bit, I allow. Unfortunately, I again failed to take pictures.
There was quite a lot of rain in the night, and today was cool and pleasantly drizzly. I was able to turn horses out early, and Oisin didn’t need to wear his fly sheet, since there were no flies in evidence.

Harry let me take his picture in the kitchen. I am so lucky.
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
The Muny, is it still the Muny Opera? I guess not. What wonderful memories you have stirred up, but what a disappointment. Except for the fun- long- good friends dinner! Susan looks a though she has a good eye, always looking to where she’s headed. Sally Swift would approve!
