Social Saturday – October 3, 2020

Stone’s tail looked good this morning. Marilyn called to check on him as I was unwrapping his tail bandage. I gave her the happy report and bandaged him back up. A good start to the day. After spraying Oisin with anti itch medicine, the horses went out to graze.

Then, off to old Bridlespur, now Blue Heron Farm, where Harry and I lived for the first five years of our marriage. Louise was showing her trusty pinto, Annie. Jane and I joined Pam to watch and cheer. Louise acquitted herself well, and we were very proud of her.

I spent much of the rest of the day puttering around the barn. I did see a hummingbird today. It must be very cold! Poor little thing should have migrated south by now, I think!

Tom Morris spent the day sleeping. It was pretty cool and damp. We had some rain, but not much. Just enough to make it a bit unpleasant. Indoors, Rebecca’s beautiful flowers brightened our day.

Marianne brought the horses in because Harry and I had a social engagement this evening. We were invited to Louise’s house at 5 PM to watch The Preakness. Ha! Alas, Louise got the time mixed up, so the dinner party was actually after the Preakness, which started at 5:30 Eastern Time. No matter, it was fun to see friends and dinner was delicious. Also, we bet on Swiss Skydiver, who won the Preakness, so our online betting this year remains in the black. We only bet on Triple Crown or Breeder’s Cup races.

Louise will be back on her horse at Blue Heron in the morning for a second day of showing. I don’t know how she does it. Showing and fixing dinner for six all in one weekend!

Stay safe, stay well.

  1. What a beautiful dinner table setting, the room, the glasses, the flowers, the china, haven’t seen that in a very long time, Lovely! And Stone’s tail is healing nicely, well done! Breeder’s Cup winner, 1996 at Woodbine where he beat Cigar, Alphabet Soup had melanomas treated by U of FL by mail. They were life threatening, and the treatment worked, that was three years ago. My Binski had them, but his were never treated and he lived to be 32. You all look like you’re freezing! What’s going on?

    1. It was COLD here, Jane! Tomorrow it will be warm, and Wednesday too hot – 85 degrees! Missouri weather is nothing if not changeable.
