Again, horses were happy to stay out for a little extra time this morning. It was nice and cool, but the day warmed up, to our dismay.
Bart, as usual, needed his beauty sleep.
No wonder! It’s hard work galloping around and getting fit with Derry…
Oisin had a good roll after his ride and bath.
Then came the dreaded ring reset. Jane and I struggled around under the glaring sun, moving almost every jump on the surface. I think we did a very respectable job. It remains to be seen what Kris thinks. I was too tired and dehydrated to take a picture.
After lunch, which was very late, Harry helped assemble the second monster pallet, so we are now ready for more hay, whenever it arrives.
Twizzler and Rosie shared a bed in the tack room, which was a surprise. Roscoe made a barn visit to see how his subjects are doing.
Bart was sleepy again this afternoon, but Stone and Oisin were mugging for the camera. Actually, they were looking forward to some more hay.
We took a break to watch the Derby. It was strange, indeed, to be doing that in September. Harry won money, though, betting on Authentic! Nice to have a Derby winner named after an Olympic show jumper. Just after we tuned in, Thousand Words flipped over in the saddling area. That might give me nightmares. Luckily for the jockey scheduled to ride him, that maneuver was an automatic scratch.
This evening, as usual, Oisin and Stone did some mutual scratching before they went out to graze. Bart was already eating grass. Now, full dark, there is a ridiculous fireworks program going on, for Labor Day, I guess. I don’t hear any galloping hooves, but the dogs are not happy.
The loyal geranium continues to delight with its cheerful flowers.
Finally, the front of the house is being overwhelmed by the Blue Atlas Cedar trees. It is beginning to look like a haunted house! But we don’t mind.
Stay safe, stay well, stay upright.
So glad to hear that you watched the Derby, growing up that was such a big deal in my family, so I am thrilled that Harry backed the winner. I love the photos of Oisin and Stone scratching as well as of Roscoe. Roscoe has looks like he has some very wise thoughts to impart. I could use some wisdom. Thanks for today. Weather is cooler in the morning, what a treat.
“…stay upright…” That is an excellent goal, thank you for the inspiration! The pictures of you and Jane are priceless. I am happy to see Roscoe is keeping an eye on everything. Under his supervision, your home and life looks like a marvelous work of art. Michigan is glorious this time of year and the American Gold Cup is only an hour from our house. I should probably do a day trip.
Before you drive an hour, Linda, make sure spectators are allowed! If so, you should definitely make a pilgrimage. It’s unlikely to be so close again.
Thanks, I just thought of that a few minutes ago! Worth a try.
Cedar Lake Cellars has a fireworks contest, I think. It’s very annoying.
I thought Cedar Lake was doing their Pyromania event next weekend! So obnoxious!
