Making the most of the clement weather, and for distraction, I went to work outside, after feeding the cats and the feral horses. Cedar accompanied me, of course, needing her cat food scatter. Tom Morris does not approve.
I was toiling away and listening to my headphones, when I received a call to tell me the election result had been called. At first, I was afraid to believe it. Since then, I have been an emotional wreck. This has been a horrible year – for the country, and for us, personally. It is such a relief to have the prospect of calm competence and compassion at the helm. I have heard from friends and family in other countries, who are also relieved and celebrating. Although, living in rural, red Missouri, I know many people who do not feel as joyful as I do, I dare to hope that there are better days ahead. Not easy, but worthwhile, and striving toward the same aspirations, as the United States of America always has.
Apologies for mention of political subjects. Jane and I went for a ride. Here is another picture from yesterday, taken by Harry. I confess to having neglected the camera today.
Bart was very good, and we did some fancy counter canter to jumps, inspired by the Maclay Equitation Finals last weekend. Alas, Derry was a bad girl today. She took issue with an invisible scarecrow at the east end of the ring, and she would not behave. Jane worked through it, but it was disappointing to have such a beautiful day and such a silly horse.
We finished in time to watch the Breeder’s Cup Classic, with Authentic leading wire to wire in a race that deserved to be called a classic. Since we were late to focus on the racing, we did not bet, but I liked Tacitus to show, so I would have been frustrated, as he finished 4th. I got lucky.
Feeding time for cats arrived, and Tom Morris thought he’d go check on the menu in the shed again. Twizzler visited, too, but he did not dine. Too much of a scaredy cat. Funnily enough, Marmalade visited the tack room for the first time. There was no tablecloth, so he ran back to the shed.
Tom Morris on a mission Why is he eating my food? Twizzler
I went to collect the mail, and the bronze fox along the driveway was pretty in the fading autumn color…
Finally, the dwarf Japanese maple under the back deck is striking when hit by late sun. I love the way the green leaves and red are thriving on the same tree. Seems there’s an allegory for the coming days.
Stay safe, stay well, stay sane.
That Tom Morris is a mover! Thank you for sharing your good words and thoughts and deeds. Peace
The Breeder’s Cup, the election, I’d say we had a darn good week end~😊 Love that Bronze Fox! Love you all!
