A very happy milestone! Last night Harry was able to sleep in our bed again at last. We have switched sides, but it was so nice to wake in the night and hear him breathing (along with Weedy, of course!). This morning seemed sort of like old times…
We had breakfast at the kitchen table and I was able to go off to the barn while Harry was self sufficient around the house. There are still some things he needs help with, but it is completely different from just one week ago. Mid morning, we did some leg stretching exercises. Roscoe helped with that, and then helped put the brace back on…
After lunch, Harry was pretty worn out from working in the office, so he lay down on the bed to rest. No fear of him getting lonely. There is always company on the bed! Daughter Anne called to check in. She is enjoying her homesteading, busy with bread making and knitting, and keeping company with Finn and Eddie, her cats.
Marianne continues to do the hard work, while I putter around. She is always so much fun to be around – I aspire to be as consistently pleasant as Marianne!
The dogs were on best behavior today. Harry is able to let them in and out and it’s great practice for his walking. His leg is swollen, but we were warned that would be the case.
Weedy says this is his bed …
Roscoe stole the show, and the bed…
My bed now! says Roscoe…
My big project of the day was preparing the shower, changing the shower head to a hand held shower, and installing the handles in various places, as designated by Carmen yesterday. By the time the day was over, we were too tired to attempt such a huge undertaking as Harry showering for the first time. That is top of tomorrow’s agenda.
After buying the fancy bale of Kansas brome hay yesterday, I had an unexpected call from the guy who sells me regular hay. He told me that he had no more hay available in January, when he brought the last load, but it turned out he did have another fifty bales, if I wanted it. Of course, I was delighted! It’s maybe not as precious as toilet paper, but it is a very valuable commodity with the pastures too wet for turnout. We are going through hay like it’s the middle of winter!
While it was a pleasant day, there is, of course, the constant anxiety over the virus and the havoc it is wreaking. Harry and I have discussed the possibility of dying, and it feels much less remote than last year, when we updated our wills. I think about how disorganized I am – I’m constantly meaning to get my life in order (not to mention letters I intend to write) – and imagine that nothing really matters at this point, except appreciating each day (though writing letters is still important!). We try not to get too saturated in the news, but things change so rapidly, we need to stay in touch with current events, even if it causes more stress.
Ah, well, on to another day tomorrow. The animals are not stressed at all, reminding us to keep our priorities simple. Stay safe one and all.
Weedy says get plenty of rest…
It’s nice to see Dr. Weedy practicing what he preaches. And that Roscoe finally has his own bed to himself. Enjoy the day!
I’m WRITING A WILL TODAY. Nope, haven’t done one since the one that made Laura executor when Jeb was 10. Herb’s got a business law degree , and he said a document announced as a will could be handwritten and left on a windowsill so long as it was signed and witnessed. Everyone is hanging out at home so there are witnesses available. I’m leaving what there is to Jeb and , since it’s too late for a trust, I’m just telling him I hope he won’t dump the farm instantly.
Florence, I trust you are healthy, and only covering bases here! Stay safe!
I’m so in love with Weedy. His has lined eyes of a JRT or beagle, and his sculptured well marked head makes for quite a handsome dog. Along with his philosophy of life, rest, be together, and enjoy, I’d say he’s a fine fine dog. Happiness!
