There are not really any adventures to report today. We decided not to ride this morning, waiting for the skies to water the ring for us. It has been miserably dusty. So, I spent much of the day working outside, sweating, and listening to Scott Turow’s new book, The Last Trial.
Stone was first in line to come in this morning, waiting behind the new gate…
The morning light on the front garden was beautiful.
I managed to get a picture of a bumble bee leaving the lamb’s ear. It’s not a very pretty bloom, but the bees are crazy for it. I do love bees. And “in flight” photos.
The red daylily is peaking.
Meanwhile, in the barn, Bart had a great case of bedhead with his second nap of the day. And he was still yawning when I finished picking stalls. I guess he needed another day off!
On the porch, I missed an amazing opportunity, with two pileated woodpeckers, one feeding the other, I guess a juvenile with a parent. It was a privilege to witness it, but the camera was out in the barn, so no luck with a photo.
I did get a tufted titmouse later, not much consolation, but a bird that I enjoy, especially it’s irritated, chiding chatter.
Tom Morris was lazy this evening, thinking about staying in the tack room overnight, though he elected to leave at the last minute to spend his night catting around. The tack room is closed at night because of all the marauding varmints. Speaking of cats, Marmalade is on time for meals, but hates the sight of me. It’s a bit demoralizing, but Tom Morris makes up for that rejection. He is some cat!
Harry lost track of me this evening, when I wandered out to the barn and ran into Marianne. He came in search, and I got a few pictures in the barn.
Harry Hasn’t forgotten how to work! Marianne Proper distancing – Marianne and Harry
And speaking of Marianne, she is a woman of many talents. This is an amazing picture she took of her horse’s eye, with a reflection in it. She thinks it’s creepy, but I love it.
The horses were happily outside already, thanks to a light rain shower, discouraging bugs. They still have access to both fields, so it looks like they are separated, but instead they have choices.
Back to the house, and treats were in order for the poor dogs that had been left in the house (such cruelty!)…
Nettie, Weedy, Cedar The dreaded Mistletoe
Finally, Montana mule baby Rainy, is running circles around her babysitter, Jazz, the elderly Appaloosa…
Stay safe, stay well, stay active.
Nothing like an uneventful day for a little respite. Love the education I’m getting on flowers and birds! Tours have started at Old Friends. My days are now complete😊 carrots, and treats, and love to all❤️
Oh! Marianne’s photo is indeed haunting. Reminds me of The Aleph by Jorges Borges.
