Saturday

It was a beautiful, warm day. Nathan and his wife, Allison came to work on the fence, which is an endless project. They did a beautiful job, including hanging a new, heavy duty gate in the paddock to replace the lightweight, bent one. Their hard work was a nice way to start the day.

They helped clear a big log in the trail that was beyond my elderly capability. I saw a fungus, possibly stump puffballs and snapped a picture of that.

When Nathan and Allison moved to the pasture fence job, I locked the horses in the paddock and Jane and I rode Derry and Bart. Marianne was here doing barn work, so I got a picture of her with Derry and Jane. Then, she took a picture of us on our chestnut Irish horses.

After a break for lunch, we rode the other two, and it was very warm. I could have bathed them, but it was such a nice day, I turned them back out to the field to roll off their saddle marks. We used to say a horse was worth $100 if it could roll all the way over. Oisin rolled all the way over TWICE! With inflation, he is worth at least $2,000. Just kidding – like the Arabs, I think it would be an insult to my horses to put a price on them. They are, all three, priceless.

Jane ran to get the camera from the barn, making these pictures possible. We both enjoyed watching them roll. Stone followed Oisin’s lead, but he couldn’t make it all the way over.

Meanwhile, back in the studio, Harry was hard at work, after a morning of errands with Weedy. Jane and I coerced him in for a cup of tea, and we heard the latest Weedy adventure. That very bad boy had scarpered almost all the way to Highway O. Harry could see his progress on the tracker, so he jumped in the car and drove to Highway O to grab him if he went into the road. He didn’t want to call him and put him into the car, because then Weedy might think he could get a ride by going to Highway O. So, Harry parked and watched and waited. He could see Weedy, but luckily that reprobate turned and went back toward home without setting foot onto the highway (whew!). By the time Harry made it back in the car, Weedy was waiting at the back door with Cedar! Harry’s hair is slightly grayer than it was yesterday. Weedy is now on probation. And he is exhausted.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
