Road Trip – July 11

Yesterday, Harry presented a maquette to a client for approval. They loved it, so today we had a road trip to Kansas City, where the small (24″) model will be enlarged to about 7 feet tall. As the resident chauffeur, I was included, with Weedy, in the road trip westward. Marianne and Jane filled in to care for the horses and the old girls (Nettie and Cedar) and off we went.

We made good time, and enjoyed meeting Spencer Schubert and his sister, Kim at E. S. Schubert Studio in Kansas City, Kansas. Spencer is a very talented sculptor, and Harry feels fortunate to have his skill with a CNC (computer numerical control) machine to fabricate an armature. It was fun listening to the artists trade stories. Best of all, Weedy was welcomed into the studio, too. Our time there was brief, but memorable, and Spencer will ship the armature back to Harry. The clay had to be driven, carefully, and luckily arrived in good shape. The drive with the clay passenger was a bit stressful, but the return was great fun.

The summer heat has returned, and we are again desperate for rain. Seeing pictures of the northeast flooding, though, makes us feel pretty lucky here.

The cats, being desert creatures, cope well with the heat.

A raccoon varmint has been a regular visitor lately, and I confess to getting attached in spite of myself. It has been cleaning up spilled sunflower chips. Now, it has been joined by a little one. Jane, too, had a little one at her house, and she got a great picture. Our neighbor, Diane, saw a mother raccoon with three babies! If we get too many, I will have to institute a relocation program, but for now, we are practicing tolerance.

And so it goes here, as summer carries us along.

Chicory, a ubiquitous summer wildflower, common and glorious

Be safe, be well, be tolerant. Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  1. Short road trips are fun. We always stop at Maggie’s in Boonville for the best burgers.

  2. Always enjoying the photos, I especially find the young Goldfinch awfully sweet. Weedy and Harry are quite the pair! Two happy guys. Good to know about Maggie’s hamburgers in Booneville, thanks Janis! I love to see Roscoe ususally headlined, no wonder, he commands it!
    Happy Days!
