Another very warm day dawned today, with gusty winds promising change. Harry and I set off for the city to join a protest at the Veterans Administration Hospital. We joined at least 500 people with homemade signs. Many veterans and their supporters lined Grand Boulevard for an hour and a half. It was nice to be with people who care about the dismantling of our government. Many people in our vicinity are still unaffected by Trump and Musk and the chaos they are wreaking. Unfortunately, we already know people impacted by layoffs, and their lives are in turmoil. We felt happy to march in protest. Letters and calls to our elected officials here in supermajority Republican Missouri have been ineffective, so this felt like something that might be noticed. We even unexpectedly ran into our friend, Laura, which was a bonus.
A gargoyle on a building, as we walked to the protest from our parked car, aptly illustrated our feelings about what is going on in the government at present.

There were signs and t-shirts and hats, many older people, but some young ones, and great enthusiasm and support from roadworkers, and passing cars on Grand Boulevard. It was a memorable day.

We returned to happy dogs and horses and cats. I will continue to focus primarily on them in future postings.

Big storms blew through as darkness fell, with very strong winds and some tornadoes. We took the dogs and Roscoe to the basement for only the second time in the 22 years we have lived here. The rough weather moved through uneventfully for us. As soon as the thunder and lightning stopped, out came the coyotes with exuberant yelps and yowls, perhaps celebrating having been spared the predicted tempest.
We are certainly grateful that we were spared, and hope that everyone was as lucky.
Stay safe, be grateful and be strong. Do not capitulate to traitors to Democracy. Slava Ukraini! God save America. Peace…
Love it!
SLAVA UKRAINI!
Love it !!! Sometimes it feels so hopeless as he illegally dismantles our great government in order to give more money to the rich! . Hard to stay positive .
Thank you for going. It’s just unfathomable what is being done and how little can be done to stop it.
BRAVO !! Protesting is good for the bones. As to the storms, Etta James and I took to the basement for about an hour while sirens howled all around us. Barry slept once the stillness crept in.
The protest photos were absolutely fabulous, and some of the signs were spectacularly spot on. I loved that Harry had on a military shirt. I almost thought those last three photos were too sweet for the message of the protest. I didn’t go to the basement, even though I got two alerts from the city to do so. My basement is just too yucky, and I always think my huge granite walls will hold up.
Good to see the protests. I like Harry’s sign!
Thank you for making the signs, making the trip to protest, and posting these great photos!
All excellent photos and signs. My favorites – Harry in uniform. And “bone spurs.”
Thanks for posting. Thanks for protesting.
Great photos and great blog!
