Pandemic Panic Sets In

With Harry’s leg healing, and his heart ticking along in perfect rhythm, we can turn our attention to the outside world and freak out. The country has gone crazy, it seems.

We had a pleasant morning, and Carmen came for OT, putting Harry through his paces, which included getting him out of the hospital bed and back into our bed. Weedy helped, of course!

After his workout, I left Harry comfortably ensconced in the recliner, and went to Wentzville for groceries. It was like Christmas time – the roads were gridlocked, there were no parking spaces in the parking lots – and it was midday on Friday, not even a weekend!

At WalMart, the soup shelves were empty, and at Dierberg’s the toilet paper was sold out, as we have heard is happening all over the country, but thought it was a joke…

Roscoe, meanwhile, is unconcerned about Coronavirus. He approves of the clean sheets, which he presumes were changed for him.

The horse shows that we had planned on attending – Ohio next week, followed by Omaha in early April – have been cancelled. All horse shows are cancelled for a month, at least. So it turns out that Harry’s femur fracture was a bit lucky after all (apart from the fact that he didn’t bleed to death, and that it was non displaced and didn’t require surgery). Had the accident not happened, I would have moved the horses to Griffin so that I could ride and prepare for the shows, which would have cost a lot of money. I would have been even more depressed about the cancellations – instead, I selfishly feel happy that I won’t be missing out on the fun! But I do feel awful for friends who make their livings coaching and judging. Horse shows are their livelihood. This coronavirus trouble has suddenly gotten real.

Well, it’s Friday the thirteenth, a good day for a pandemic panic, and black cat Rosie’s favorite day… I do hope it’s been a lucky day for Mickey, the FIV positive, not so wild black cat, and that he has found a home…

Rosie

  1. It seems I’ve missed quite a bit by not having time to read through your posts lately! I’m so glad Harry is doing better! I hope you have plenty of TP because the world is out of it. Well, some people have enough to last for years but others will be using newspaper..
And Anne I know being a caregiver is not exactly a breeze but you have such a wonderfully infectious upbeat attitude! Take care of yourself too! ❤️ xoxo

    1. Thanks, Laura! We do have TP, but are going to be quite careful with its use after reading shocking tales in the papers online this morning. Yikes! People are losing their minds. I believe one JM in the CWE here has prepared well on that score. I thought he was kidding, but now realize he is a wise man!

    1. Haha!! Thanks, Betsy, but we are OK. Not sure we have enough to be as generous as you, but we are fine. Might depend on how many visitors we have!! Don’t forget, I still have your insulated bag!

  2. Dear Anne and Harry, yes the world has gone crazy. The city of Denton, TX cancelled the festival at midnight last night. Hard times ahead for storytellers, musicians, trainers, judges, and many more. The gig economy has run aground. So happy to hear you have found a sunny meadow in the middle of the woods. Hope the journey back to health is back on good footing for the duration. Love, L

    1. Oh, no, Linda! I’m so sorry to hear this. There are indeed hard times ahead. It’s only the beginning, I’m afraid. Like everything else, one foot in front of another, on we go, day by day. I hope Rosie is holding up under the stress and that the four of you have safe travels. There are bound to be better times to come and even better stories to tell next time.

  3. You can see where the priorities of the US citizens are— in the toilet.
    Happy healing!
    Love your Roscoe!

    1. Well, it’s not exactly red – it’s a sort of purple color, actually! I needed an electric recliner for him when I brought him home against medical advice, and this one was the best, albeit the worst color! It is a really nice chair, and when you are in it, you don’t notice the color! To get a different color, we would have had to wait (not surprisingly, this one was on the floor for trial). No regrets!
